Your role? Nothing matters but combat.

Obviously this is good enough for many people -- as evidenced by the quick attacks on the thread (as though the new game needs to be defended?). Goody for those folks. I'm just saying that sort of limited description disappoints me.

(And kneejerk "troll" calls are not called for, so cut it out already.)

Your wife might start sleeping in another room. Might want to watch out for that, cause lawers don't always train in the "In Bed" skill.

It saddens me that the part a character plays in group combat is defined as the entirety of his "role" (i.e. striker, controller, etc.), with barely a nod toward noncombat adventuring or other social interactions and goals in the gamebook's descriptive text.

In other words, it looks as though nothing other than combat is worth mentioning in this game anymore.

You can have noncombat "roles," they just don't come with powers. The point is for everyone to have something to do in most exciting situations.

What kind of description would you wish to have?

The roles are brief, for beginners references for combat. So the description wouldn't be added to roles, and you can't really dictate how a fighter, rogue, wizard, etc. would act outside his powers since well that is independent of powers since that is individual to each character.

But lawyers are supposed to be adept at screwing people... *rimshot*

This.

If you need rules to tell you when you are allowed to roleplay, I can't help you.

All what is done during a Role Playing Game session is roleplay. Like "boardplay" is what is done with a "boardgame".

That includes using resolution mechanics (rolling dices), doing narration, acting and so on.

Yes, but there shouldn't be "roles" to dictate how you should roleplay your character. It applies better to combat because a class is generally situated towards certain abilities in combat.
