Your thoughts on 'Xcrawl"?

The updated version has cleaned up charts and numbers (specifically the armor chart which was completely wonky in the old version).

If you own the old version do not throw it out! All of the errata and changes can be downloaded free from the Goodmans Game site.

The only other changes are that it is indeed in color and has a few nifty new pieces of art.

be well,

Brendan

Thanks for letting me know. I had no plans of throwing my copy out either way.

Hey Brendan, is Xcrawl full at Gen Con yet?

As an ENnies judge I don;t get my badge until I am onsite, so pre-reg is pretty much out.

Any way I could sign up theough you?

Hey man,

I am not sure if the Gen Con tourney is full or not, but signing you up is out of my hands.

However that's only the official tourney - I am going to do a couple of after games (probably one on Wensday and one on Thursday) - come see me at our booth if you are interested in playing in one of those.

be well,

Brendan

The biggest influences on Xcrawl:

Gladiator movies, especially Gladiator and Sparticus;

Spacehunter: Adventures in the Negative Zone

Rollerball

The WWF

A bit late getting to this, but I had to ask: what do pandas have to do with Xcrawl? Are there giant killer pandas in the dungeons? 'Cause that would be pretty sweet.

If I were to use XCrawl, I'd make some modifications to the setting..

-Making it a cyber/clock/manapunk setting
-Replacing the Tech vs Magic elements with pure Technomagic
-Altering the religious landscape of the Empire a bit, still making the Olympians the official religion, but making it tolerant of other faiths (like the ancient Romans were)
-Making the Monotheists a bit different, an amalgam of christians/jewish elements, tolerant of "Natural Law" magic. While still a minority faith, would be tolerated because of it's mostly benevolent beliefs.

Well I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag but eventually, behind the final curtain of Xcrawl there is indeed one evil giant panda running everything. Be afraid.

No actually Pandahead Games was the first publisher to give Xcrawl a shot and I will love them forever for it.

Hmmm...maybe we'll have to do a giant cardstock panda for a future set? Coming soon from Fat Dragon Games, the Gargantuan Dire Panda card model. Muhahhahaaaa....

I always thought X-Crawl would be a great in-store game. With a league setup etc I can see it working quite well. Dunno why I haven't seen that anywhere (albeit I've only looked in a small number of stores).

I was lucky enough to run x-crawl with my last group before it folded. Even though it was the most challenging game I ever ran, I don't think I ever had as much fun playing D&D since.

Just to relate a funny story about my x-crawl game. After running the PC's through the crawl in the core book and the Three Rivers Crawl, I was drawing a blank on what to do with this group after that. Then I had a brainstorm! I will shunt them off to Ravenloft during the crawl. Using the When Black Roses Bloom adventure. When the demiplane of dread came and claimed them in the middle of a room, they thought it was all part of the crawl. Oh boy were they wrong! To make a long story short, they ended up coming home in the middle of central park with a vampire kender on the loose. Not to mention they had to explain the the NAE why they disappeared in the middle of a crawl, on international TV. They ended up clearing themselves with the NAE and made a movie based on their adventure (claiming it was a work of fiction). It was a great way to end our run of X-crawl.

That sounds extremely cool! I have never made it through Ravenloft, good on your players!

Brendan
