Zero-Level PC's???

Are there any good rules (WotC or otherwise) for whipping up PC's of Zero Level? Using either PC or NPC classes would be helpful.

I have always assumed that if you took the rules for making a 1st level multi-classed character using two 0 level 'apprentice' versions of a class, and instead just had a single 'apprentice' class that it would approximate a 0 level character quite well.

Regressing one level back makes all characters basically 1st level commoners, and first level commoner exists as a class basically to approximate AD&D 0 level characters.

Use the NPC classes.

A level 1 or 2 commoner is roughly equivalent to a zero level human peasant or laborer in AD&D.

A level 1 warrior is roughly equivalent to a zero level militiaman in AD&D (who had a whopping 4-7 HP!).

Also, I think the 3.0 DMG had some sort of rules for this.
