Zombie Monstrosity

Minirogue

First Post
Once my group killed the Wyrmpriest in the DMG adventure, they decided to send the rogue in alone to see what was behind the secret door. She saw the dragon and they decided to go back and ask for more money to kill the dragon. When they were getting ready to leave the town got attacked by a

Zombie Monstrosity (or abomination if you like)

Initiative -2
17 AC, 14 Fort, 9 Ref, 14 Will
HP: 38, Move: 2, Size: Special
Melee: Reach 2, +6 vs AC 1d10 +3 (then 1d8 and 1d6 as it gets smaller (I'll explain))
Ranged: Range 10, +3 vs AC 1d6 +3, 2 damage to self (again, I'll explain)
radiant vulnerability 5

This abomination to the living is made up of the 19 (by my count) Kobolds that the party killed in Kobold manor. It was created by Szartharrax who was pissed to find out that all of his little Kobold pets were killed. For every 2 damage that it takes, a zombie rotter (MM 274) falls off of it and has initiative right before the Monstrosity. If the Monstrosity takes radiant damage, the resulting zombies fall off dead.

The monstrosity starts as huge, then becomes large instead of bloody, then medium at 1/4 max HP and finally it just becomes a zombie rotter at 2hp (if it reaches that number). For it's ranged attack, it throws one of it's zombies which falls prone next to the target of the attack.

This was the first Monster that I have created. This was for a level 1 encounter against a paladin, (laser)cleric, (ranged)ranger, (fey)Warlock, and a rogue.

Mistakes that I made: Movement was way too slow, especially since I started him across the board (probably 10-15 squares away) next to difficult terrain (rubble from him bashing through the town gate). He probably could have used more HP too, 3 or 4 per zombie would probably have been better. Also, for going against a paladin and a cleric the radiant vulnerability got him pretty much destroyed. in about the third round (he was getting his ass kicked), I waved my magic DM hand and made all of the zombies a little bit faster, but it still wasn't enough to make the encounter a challenge...so yeah, there is my first attempt at making my own monster.
