Zombie movies

The greatest zombie movie line of all time comes from "Return of the Living Dead", when some girl's now-zombied boyfriend is trying to break through a locked door to get to her and he says, "If you love me, you have to let me eat your brain!" That's hilarious :D I use that line as a signature line on another messageboard I'm on.....

Another vote for Night of the Living Dead. Still gives me the willies late at night. I think NotLD is my favorite for the "serious zombie film" aspect. Granted, 28 Days Later had its dramatic moments, but (at least to my jaded sensibilities) felt more like Trainspotting meets NotLD--not serious enough! :)

I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead yet, but plan to. I think for the extreme "silly zombie film" vibe, you can't go wrong with Dead-Alive (my friends looked on in shock while I laughed as the child-abuse-in-public scene played out).

Not a big zombie movie fan, but I prefer the old, shambling kind. Maybe they can do a quick lunge, I don't mind that, but not the full on, arm pumping run like the Dawn Of The Dead remake. At that point, they just look like people in make-up.

My favorite zombie films are Night Of The Living Dead (original and remake), Return Of The Living Dead, Zombie (the Lucio Fulci film), Zombie Holocaust (for its cheeziness), White Zombie, and Resident Evil. I also love Army of Darkness and Evil Dead 2, but I'm not sure they count as "zombies".

Just as a sidenote, Peter Jackson only filmed this scene because they had a little leftover time and money in the budget. Thank goodness, because it turned out so great and memorable. "Hyperactive!"

So, how do you like your zombie movies? Serious or silly?
I was about to say definitely serious, when I realized that I'd forgotten Shaun of the Dead, which I loved.

Do you like your zombies freshly dead, or do you like em when they have stewed in their grave for a bit?
While I would consider myself something of a purist, I enjoyed the "zombies" of both 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake. Still, the original Night of the Living Dead is the zombie-movie gold standard.

But please gods not the colorized version... lime green zombies...
