D&D 5E Zooming In On Monsters of the Multiverse [UPDATED!]

Earlier, WotC announced Mordenkainen Presents Monsters of the Multiverse, a new D&D compilation of monster material from previous products updated to a new format. These screen grabs are as good as I could get them. They're not terribly clear, but you can make more out than in the original images.

Heck we have evidence that the Demon Lords almost certainly be included. The GM screen has Orcus and Zuggtmoy on it.

There's also a standard beholder and a grell on it, but we know there won't be any MM creatures on it.

Uhh you know that Beholder is Xanathar right. The exact same beholder and image that is on the cover of Xanathar's Guide. Also that's not a grell, that's an Elder Brain which are in Volo's Guide. The other creatures on it are some Grung and a Kobold, which are in Volos as well.

Well, that's what I get for looking at it on a small screen on a phone. Until I took a closer look, it definitely looked like a grell, with the one tentacle looking sort of looking like a beak.

But in any case, without further info, it's just idle speculation on what will be in the book or not, as they have neither confirmed nor denied that everything from the bestiaries from VGtM and MToF will be in the book.

The Demon Lords and such will probably not just be reprinted but redone and rebalanced as well.

I was just thinking about this. Most of the Demon Lords don't match their CR or expected power very well, so this could be a good opportunity

I hope they tell us how to create monsters/NPCs with these spellcasting abilities. Or rather how to properly CR them

Honestly, I think it'll be easier to figure out the CR for these creatures, since the damage is right there in the statblock.

Hopefully the monster building and encounter building rules get an update in the anniversary edition core books.

It appears so will Xanathar, which I believe confirms that creatures from adventure and possibly setting books will also appear in MotM.

It's not a standard beholder, he's Xanathar, notice he's holding a gold fish bowl, with Siglar in it, his little fish buddy.

Grungs are on the cover too, but they are small so easy to miss. They are near Orcus's knee, opposite to Xanathar.

But I mean, do we know the book won’t contain any Monster Manual stat blocks? I kinda doubt that it won’t, personally.
