The thing I note is that if the shaman has a low AC, so will the companion, which could end up causing a lot of damage to the shaman over time. I guess it depends on how often they do more than 10+1/2 level.

Well, it's true that an ally gives cover, so you could hide behind them. HOWEVER, you only stay hidden as long as you have cover or concealment, and allies don't count for that purpose in the stealth rules. So you can hide behind them for about a quarter second, but then enemies see you.

I believe Shifters are in PHB2, and I expect some orc feats in it as well (assuming halforcs have the ability to take orc and human feats in the same way halfelves do).

Speaking of their encounter builder... Is there currently an easy way to create an encounter and print out all the monsters with their stats?

I don't know about sneak attack, at least, I don't think that you can do it to more than one enemy you hit. RAW you can, once per round, sneak attack. Unless I missed explanation/errata somewhere?

So, the extra human skill is only from the class list as per RAW. For the Eladrin, it appears to be any skill he wants, because it says he can pick any from the skill list in chapter 5. Is this correct?

I think you've missed another thing I had a character using options from quentisential (yeah, I was stupid) that let you do true strike as a free action. He made a fighter/wizard/prestige class (one that could ignore some spell failure) and then used disarm. I never worried about disarm...

Personally, I find i have to spend a year or two breaking people of bad habits they picked up from video games. Leveling and power levels are the biggest two, and i find it hard to get people into a non-mp spell system.

I'm not sure how good it is, but past 10th level, i find flaming, shocking, and freezing to be worthless. Too many things aren't affected by them any more, either they are imune or have resistance 5 or more and can basically not be hurt. admiditly, I would give half the bane ability vs...
