Well, I don't know about New York, but in the Twin Cities, MN area, you should definitely check out the Source Comics and Games

    City Campaign Advice

I resemble that remark! I'm running a city campaign currently. It's the first time I've run an extensive campaign in a city, and here are some of the issues that I have run into: 1) Like the others said, NPCs, NPCs, and more NPCs. If you have to make someone up off-the-cuff, write their...

    Art vote

Hmmm... Know what I'd like to see? I'd like to see some decent fighter art, I don't care what sex. I'd like to see it without the Games Workshop "spikes and skulls and spikes with skulls on them" motif. I like to see it without the "Frustrated grunge musician" piercing and tattoo fetish...

Do You Remember Your First Game?

I definitely remember I definitely remember. I was 10 years old, it was 1984. I had bugged my parents about D&D until they got me the basic set when I was nine. I never found anyone willing to play that could learn the rules. :P We moved back to the States and one day my father said, "Do...

    Valdemar D20?

I second Vanye's suggestion My girlfriend ran a "Valdemar Embassy Ball" party at a con and had to go through all kinds of rigmarol.

    Monte cook's bard

I love it I have an MC bard in my campaign now - it's excellent. I've left the PHB bard in the campaign, renamed to "Dilletante", but the new bard rocks pretty hard. The spellsongs are interesting, and she's balancing out well with the rest of the party. The bard and the rogue have got all...

Sources of Experience other than combat

Risk? yes Traps and Creatures only? No. I agree that XP rewards should reflect some sort of risk or challenge overcome. I disagree that traps and combat are the only things that cause that. I tend to fudge CRs a little bit for important encounters and puzzles, the ones where there is risk...

    DM'ing Style

Been in that position I had a group (and in particular, one player) become convinced that I wouldn't throw anything at them that they couldn't handle. The only way to teach them otherwise was to finally do so, and let them suffer a bit.

D20 Evil Dead or D20 Chill.

Never played Chill, but.. I think that the feel of Evil Dead would be easily achieved by using D&D, just adding guns. It had the same "against great odds" kind of over the top action. D&D can do great horror, if you are careful to set the mood.

RPGs prohibited in a Brazilian city...

What's considered censorship, and how much it can be violated for the sake of "community safety" vary widely from country to country.

Archdevils and demon princes in Monte's book

I'd buy it I find the whole subject very interesting. As someone pointed out, you could do all this stuff yourself, but frankly, I don't have that much time anymore. I also like Monte's stuff. I actually will probably READ the demon lord stuff, but not actually use them at any time. I'm...

What would you expect to find in....

Don't forget the wizards! It'd be part of what other people have mentioned, but I think it's important enough in a D&D setting to mention explicitly. The Imperial establishment (beauracracy, despot, whichever) will need to have good, powerful magic on his side. He'll probably make it very...

    Spellcasting and two handed weapons

Point to consider, Souljourner... When someone "disarms" your shield or large weapon in this way, they are intentionally getting it out of useable position, AGAINST your will... for instance, disarming a staff in this way would probably mean stripping one hand off of it and knocking it out...

    Hidden = Invis???

Hiding is NOT invisibility... I think the big difference between hidden (via the hide skill) and invisibility, is that once you look in a specific place for someone who is hidden (say, lurking in the shadows) you're going to see that they're there by the time you're in melee range. Exceptions...

    Which do your players prefer?

Mix 'em up My players like to get in some roleplaying and some non-combat gaming (like investigation, item creation, social interaction, etc) but still have a chance every now and then to mix it up.
