I found a lot of the 4e ideas/rules I had been using in 3.5 before it came out. After all a lot of the ideas were in modules/settings books. As long as it doesn't lower players chosen abilities too much the rules don't need to be perfectly the same on both sides of the screen.

My group has been using the beta and playing the Red Hand of Doom module. As a dm there are a few minor conversions but most you can make on the fly. (ie hide-->stealth and grapple-->CMB).

I meant more most people wouldn't buy it from amazon. The majority of the minority who get pathfinder order it direct. I imagine amazon's discount is greater but I tend to like the pdfs with the books (and subscribers get the pdfs for free).

I like Pathfinder but I don't see it out selling 4e. Ignoring that I imagine a lot of people buying Pathfinder will subscribe if only for the first couple of rule books to get the pdfs with them. Do a lot of people buy Pathfinder modules/ap/chronicles from amazon?

Core Books, KotS, Manual of the Planes, FR, Trollhaunt, DDI I tend to dm the most hence the selections of books. The players in my group have gotten all the player equivalent books. Also DDI gives access to everything anyway.

Of the last 4 campaigns, only one had a mage (and only two a cleric). To be fair one was in the Iron Kingdoms (so gun mage, ogrun, theif and heavy pirate theme) and another had an Artificer. Heavy potion buying (Ptolus)and use magic device, but worked fine.
