When did you give up on Greyhawk?

As a follow up to this thread When did you start greyhawk? when did you stop using Greyhawk? I started middle 80's but gave it up pretty quickly when DM created homebrew. He would just take some published adventures, and place them in his world.

Inquest Magazine - Dead after September

Well that just sucks!! I just renewed my 2 year subscription a couple of months ago. It must be hard for print mags to make a profit anymore.

Were you a 3.x hater when it was announced and are glad you made the switch?

Not what I was planning, but a cool effect none the less. The main reason for the poll was to see if the 2nd Grognards turned into 3.x Grognards after they actually checked it out. With all the ranting about 4th coming out, just wanted to see if people would actually give it a chance when it...

Does Wizards want Greyhawk to fail?

For months we have been hearing that if the sales for the new Greyhawk Expidition book were good, then they might produce more. Then about 2 weeks after its release, they announce 4E? Coincidence or conspiracy?

    Greyhawk by another publisher?

For me personally, no, I wouldn't buy it. But being a Dragonlance fan, I know how much a "dead world" means to people. So if it would make some Greyhawk fans happy, then sure.

Were you a 3.x hater when it was announced and are glad you made the switch?

With all the Love/Hate for 3.5 and 4th going around, I was just wondering were you upset when 3.0 was announced and are you glad now that you made the switch and why? Are these the same feelings that you have with 4E announced?

    D&D 4E Will 4E be backwards compatible?

Seriously, what products are you still using from 20 years ago? I graduated from high school 20 years ago. You still using DOS 5.0 on that IBM 286 machine with 1 MEG of RAM? You still wearing those Jordache and Calvin Kline jeans, Still listening to cassettes? Still driving that 1987 K Car...

Requiring Players To Draw The Dungeon Map!

Yes it has. In the current adventure, I could reason that the hallways were 20'wide and had larger rooms because we were in a pyramid (south america style, not egyptian). Part was sealed off and part was still used as a temple. Hallways needed to be large so material could be moved and rooms had...

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

Back in '85 when I started, I never ran into one. There were people who knew the rules, but didn't have that arrogant swagger or disruptive to the play.

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

First edition Lack of Rules Lawyers! Cavaliers Unearthed Arcana (original) Percentage based skills Different progressions for classes (made you think of ways to keep the wizard alive) Different spell lists for classes Different abilites for classes. Drow were always evil and the best villians...

Your First Character and their impact

My first character was a 1st edition halfling cleric. He made it to about 11th level, built a temple, only to have it burned down by a cleric of a rival diety the day after it was blessed. It was a great hook, but we never got around to finishing it. I still like the spellcasters, but tend more...

    DnD Economy

Maybe the citizens don't understand the price elasticity of demand. Just give them the formula E(sub)d =%(delta)Q(sub)d /% (delta)P That would clear everything up. I knew that economics class would finally pay off.

How we experienced the game, in totally different and incompatible ways

I remember only imposing the training rules if a character dual/multiclassed. XP for gold was a rule I saw used all the time. I think that part of the reason that players saw the same DM'ing type was that as players learned from the first DM, they kept a lot of the same rules because that is...

    Fleshing out your Homebrew

I have the major starting area fleshed out pretty well. Names of important NPC's, leaders, guilds and such. With the current campaign we have a couple of rpg newbies, so I wanted to get them exposed to several areas of the world. A desert, a swamp, big city, ruined tower, and other fantasy...

    Minimal Prep

The overall campaign I have is pretty well detailed. I have the current planned adventure, maps, rooms and monsters planned. The next one is in the working stages. Once the current one is done, I finish up the next and start the one after that. This allows for player changes or tangents pretty...

Logic behind sales of "Expedition to Castle Greyhawk"?

Has anyone heard if this is going to be in the "delve" format? With the release of the new Undermountain, and the complaints that are going along with it, Could this be the Greyhawk Killer?

But they're the worst type of players...

I've found that most Powergamers are rules lawyers as well. They know everything about their character and will correct you at the first opportunity. Powergamers tend to just specialize in that character. They may notice an error, but if it doesn't effect their character, they don't mention it.

    DM or GM?

I use DM even when referring to other games. I didn't here about GM until years later, and DM just stuck. No one has ever said anything about it.

Monte Cook is writing a fantasy novel

I'm not a big fan of his work, so no. If I hear that it's good, then maybe.
