Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

Fenwick's eyes twinkle with delight as he speaks with the boy. "Oh, hippogriffs! They're fantastic beasts! Imagine a stately steed, the largest horse, muscles rippling as it charges forth with sheer power--then give it wings! And talons! And a beak! When you train them, you have to start early...

Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

Fenwick beams at the child. "Well, I, for one, like the hippogriffs. Marvelous steeds, and if you raise one up from a colt, he will be your companion everywhere, and you get to fly!" Inside, Fenwick nods and defers to Kyle. "Indeed, bless us and this establishment with the grace and bounty of...

    Eschew Materials??

What are your thoughts on the feat Eschew Materials? I've seen people swear by Eschew Materials, to the point that they can't ever consider a caster without this feat at first level. To me, though, this feat reads as "get out of spell component pouches free." It only works against components of...

Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

Fenwick thought for a moment and responded philosophically, "You can always get what you want, as long as you recognize what the price is." He turned to the clerk. "But yes, being involved in stealing a caravan is very bad for business, and a great way to get thrown out of town. You're right...

Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

OOC: Fenwick's statements were after the conversation with the clerk. I somehow missed that the conversation was with the clerk.

    My first Wizard, opinions please.

Racial choice tends to be a more personal issue, so please feel free to ignore my input. However, since I've said it in other threads, I'll say it again here: consider being a gnome. You still get your +2 Con, so you're still Dex 16, Con 17, Int 16. That's great. Either keep your other scores...

Please confirm if characters must choose feat when they get it?

That is correct. Gaining the feat is part of gaining the level; you can't finish gaining the level until you gain the feat. And thus, you can't gain the fourth level until after you've gained the third-level feat. This is by design.

How do you make humans worth LA +1?

I developed some +1 LA humans for my private campaign world, too. Here's what I did: Ability scores: +2 to any one score Movement 30 ft Medium Sized +2 to Profession checks +10% starting funds 1 extra feat at character creation 4 extra skill points at first level, +1 skill point per level...

    Best race for sorcerer?

For min/maxing, I'd still choose the gnome. Let's say the Human above can take an 18 Cha, 10 Con, and 14 Dex, and Toughness. That's 7 hp, 12 AC, +2 attack with the crossbow. Now, let's say you're a Gnome, with 18 Cha, 14 points in Con, and 10 Dex. The 14 Con becomes a 16 Con, and you've got 7...

    The "Everything Sorcerer" Thread

If I were thinking of choosing human for the Toughness feat, then I'd choose a gnome instead. +2 Con is +1 HP right off the bat, and +1 Fort, +1 Concentration... You also get +1 AC for being small, +4 Hide, and +1 attack. By the time you're level 3, you've already got everything that Toughness...

Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

Fenwick perked up after what seemed like an eternity. "Maybe they're looking for a scapegoat, maybe they found one before the shipment went missing. Maybe the inside job was deeper than Klosterman, Klosterman was his or her rival, and this was a convenient way to take him out of the picture."...

Wielding a Spiked Chain - for the first time.

Sure you can! Combat Expertise requires an Int 13+. It's Dodge that requires the Dex.

    Best race for sorcerer?

I am of the opinion that gnomes are the best spellcasters for pure spellcasting, and are great for sorcerers. First, for the reasons already pointed out: Small size is great for spellcasters. They typically don't need to carry much or do much damage with weapons. However, they're +1 AC, +1 to...

    Adamantine: Crystalline or Amorphous?

Ironically, in RL, glass and ceramic is generally amorphous, and not crystalline. For D&D, I'd rule that "crystalline" means "stuff that breaks or shatters." Forget RL. :)

    Dire Mace?

I love the Gyrspike. In my opinion, the Gyrspike is precisely the sort of double weapon that even begins to make sense. Double weapons should have different abilities in the heads, not the same one. My favorite double weapon in the PHB is the urgrosh, just because you've got more utility than...

Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

"I suppose I should, then. We wouldn't want to fall to banditry. Thank you, m'lady. You've been most helpful, and it was wonderful to meet you. And I do thank you most wholeheartedly for the letter. My love will treasure it always." Fenwick then turns to go.

Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

Fenwick pulls a gold out of his pocket and hands it to the merchant. "Why do you ask? Do you know anything about someone needing guards?"

Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

"Your offer is music to my ears, and I must accept. I have a letter to write to a love far away, and I would want it in a fine hand. I fear mine is much too coarse for the task. Please, if I may, here is the letter I wish. Dearest love, The stone city is magnificent, but I am alone here. All...

Ransom for Retirement (El Jefe Judging)

Fenwick walks up to the ink seller and looks at her merchandise with enchantment. "I must say, this is a quite lovely array of inks and quills you have available. Very lovely, indeed. I may need to have a note written sometime soon, so this would be a boon. Pray tell, what sort of tints do you...

    General Discussion Thread VIII

I might try a druid as a second character, but now I'm thinking of a Monk/Druid to be a Wild Shaping fiend... um, eventually.
