D&D 5E What D&D should learn from a Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones)

Take what GoT does and do the opposite. You need to keep the plot moving. I can imagine a D&D game Game of Thrones style. Three gaming sessions spent talking to the exact same guy. 3 minutes of dice rolling and excitement. Then three more sessions of talking to a second guy about the...

    D&D 5E L&L December 16th Can you feel it?

Speaking as a player who seems to be the party's rogue or cleric more often than not, I am getting a little frustrated at some of the thinking in this thread. This game has niches and certain characters to fill those niches. The rogue is fun as written - they just are sometimes not all that...

D&D 5E How They Should Do Feats

This is just my quick impression. It is the choice of a feat or a +1 stat boost. Feats are generally preferable, but since they are an optional addition to a game they may not be available. So even in games without feats, the players still get the +1.

D&D 5E Challenge: Build a 5E campaign with classic modules

I don't have 20 levels worth. I've got a good start based on what I own sort of a semi-aquatic campaign. I think I will start with Against the Cult of the Reptile Gods using Saltmarsh as the base. I will definitely do U1 Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh. Followed by an abbreviated version of...

    So where are you now?

I'm running Savage Worlds for my young son and nephews. All of them are having an awesome time. I have pre-prepared character sheets for super-heroes, Ninja Turtles, and Jedis. Whatever they feel like playing at the time. Then I just make up a story on the fly and let them roll some dice...

D&D 5E Why I Feel Hopeful about 5E (and why I think it may be closer than some think)

With any luck I can run a game with the rules and options cranked up to 11 when my old friends drop by, and play almost rules free with the kids using the same basic rules.

D&D 5E Why I Feel Hopeful about 5E (and why I think it may be closer than some think)

I am a lapsed player. I'm really looking forward to 5E. I played every previous edition (although I greatly disliked 4E). I got old and gained responsibilities. I started a little Pathfinder game for a couple of old friends a while back, but I just don't have it in me to run such a...

    D&D 5E Whats your dealbreaker for 5E?

I am leaning towards getting it. I like most of what I see so far. The dealbreaker would be if there was somehow a monthly subscription, or required use of miniatures, or collectable cards. I don't see this happening, but if it does, it is an automatic dealbreaker for me.

D&D 5E Are you going to buy the 5e Core Books?

I will probably buy it. I do like several of the things they are attempting do with the system. I will not buy it sight unseen like I did with 4e however.

Anyone know when D20 Modern/Future Might Be Out?

I am also a d20 modern fan. I am interested in another modern game. But unlike 4e, I won't be dumb enough to buy it sight unseen.

    Your Second Love

My Second love is D&D. My first love was Star Frontiers. Since then I have just been chasing a ghost. I've been trying to recreate the wonder and the amazement I felt playing that little game in my youth.

What was your favorite 1e/2e magic item?

My most memorable character in 1e/2e was a cleric of Lathander armed with a Helm of Alignment change. They had infinite charges back then. God of New Beginnings - Helm of Alignment Change, it worked great.

    Disappointed in 4e

I feel the same as the OP on all of his points. He just articulated our position better than I could. Good things came out of my disappointment. I diversified my gaming palate. Savage Worlds, Mongoose Traveler and GURPS are getting all of my gaming dollars now.

    OotS 599 is up

Roy has been dead for about 150 strips now. Roy might not be coming back. Elan has grown lately. He has shown the good judgment that is needed to become an effective leader.

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

I have to admit that 4e is not really doing it for me. No specific reason - I just don't like it very much. But that is fine. It frees up my time for other great games such as GURPS, Savage Worlds and Traveler.

Can you tell me more about Traveller? (Forked Thread: Space RPGs?)

Wonderful explanation of Traveler. I could have not done better.

    OOTS 595 up

Meh. Builder strip. Just kidding! 'Bout time we get away from these 3rd and 4th tier subplots and get back to the band back together! Now wasn't there something about a lich and a gate, and a leader to resurrect?

Forgotten Realms Avatar Trilogy - your experiences?

I DMed the these back in high school. They read really good, but played really bad. These are the modules that taught me all about railroading and having PCs always being out-shined by NPCs.

Green Ronin not signing GSL (Forked Thread: Doing the GSL. Who?)

I am a fan of GR stuff and I support whatever decision they decide to make on this topic. I might decide to find myself a lawyer and learn a little bit about this "copyright" stuff myself.
