Not really, no. There are quite a number of spells that can do the rogue stuff -- knock and shatter, at the least, plus a few more. I'm sure someone has a list. And, of course, a Binder can just send his completely expendible summon animal at whatever, and I think there's a reserve spellcasting...

I guess I would focus on breath stuff. There are lots of feats -- mostly from races of the dragon and draconomicon -- that improve the breath weapon. Entangling Exhalation, Exhaled Barrier, Clinging Breath, Enlarge Breath, maybe some ability focus, stuff like that.

The Druid Spell Entangle? It's a level 1 spell... Druids can do that from first level... and there are lots of other spells they get that can do that. And they can heal. And they are great in melee. AND they have a fighter as a class feature...

There's no reason to put your main weapon as a defending weapon, really. Seeing as how you can get +1 defending armor spikes, +1 defending shield spikes, +1 defending gauntlets, +1 defending braid blade, +1 defending dueling cloak, +1 defending poison ring (as many as you want really), +1...

I mean, if you are using Core + Completes, than in *general* the best Archer is a Cleric--ignoring that PrC entirely. Sure, if you've got the second set of completes, than a Swift Hunter might be okay, but an Archer Cleric is still, you know, a Cleric, and thus able to do pretty much...

If you have access to core + completes, a good archer is Cleric 20. Get Zen Archery, use your buffs, use greater magic weapon, go to town.

An easy way to solve this problem is to have monsters that regenerate at the end of every round... so they always get back up if you knock them unconscious. Throw a few wererats (or whatever) at them to discourage this behavior!
