    I'm using extended mage armour for my wizard6/fighter1 atm. Next level I think I'll go for spellsword 1.

    6-11 I'm also afraid of killing them by mistake at lower levels. Above 10th level or so, I tend to loose track of the monster/npc abilities.

    IMO one trade route comes from the NW and one from Kul Moren. They split in Mor's End, one going to the SE and one to the SW (road or ships). The intersection of two major trade routes is good for business.
