Not for all the gold in Fort Knox could you convince me to go back to university.

Academics know so much about their specialisation that I could argue they know everything about not very much!

Give me practical industry experience over fancy pieces of paper (and laminated cardboard "qualifications") any day!

Hey hey there. As an academician, I assure you that slander is not always true. And I doubt you could argue I know everything about not very much ;) But that has less to do with my PhD and more about my voracious appetite for information.

lol! Sorry, and thanks for the argument. My old man is a reformed academic (who now works in a private research position). I understand the culture and place well enough.

I got my honours degree more than 10 years ago and that's enough. I like to think a PhD would be possible, but no way in hell will I go back. An honours thesis was enough of the academic life, thank you.

You might be one of the few useful academics, Fenris. :) So many of the ones I know over-specialise to such a level that their specialist knowledge is too...pigeonholed...to be broadly useful.
