"But to where? The swamp is a very large area... and Dieter hypothesis about the contaminated well could be verified quickly." suggests Jarel-karn.

OOC: Checking out the well in the (hostile) poor quarter is an option too. It's also a lot closer and you know exactly where to go, but you'd certainly meet trouble on the way.

Maybe we should go see the poor people here dearies, since it is closer.

That way we can keep an eye on poor Toeto as well.
she whispers to the party.

OOC: I'm fine with either one however.

I'll introduce Beatrice's blink dog soon if that is OK :)

Damen shrugs. While I'd probably be able to get through, I'm not liking the chances of all of you not being set upon by rabid lizards. Closer they may be, but the countryside is less concentrated danger.

OOC: I count 3 votes for the swamp and 2 for the poor quarter. To the swamp it is!

After some discussion, you all decide to make your way toward Toeto's tribe in the swamp. Dieter provides a set of metal flasks to fill with the lizardfolks' water supply, and he cautions you not to drink from it yourselves. The group exits the temple, leaving Toeto in the care of the priest.

The guards who escorted you to the temple are nowhere to be found outside, but you don't need their help finding the city exit anyway; a barbican built into the main wall can be seen not far from the temple. The main gate is closed when you reach it, so you have to ask the soldier on duty to open it. He tells you he can't guarantee your safety outside - there will be no rescue if you get in trouble - but since the party is quite heavily armed, he figures you know what you're doing. He opens the gate, and you take your first steps into the truly savage lands.

To the west and north, you see a sparsely forested area starting a few hundred yards from the wall. Far in the distance to the east and northeast is a jagged mountain range. You see a river, large enough to make crossing it difficult, flowing from the eastern mountains and all the way to the city walls, where it passes through a set of iron bars in the wall and presumably into the ocean.

Toeto's map doesn't give any scale, so it is difficult at first to determine where to go. Thankfully, Eithal comes up with the idea of using the mountain range as a reference point; according to the map, the village is due west of where the mountains curve from north to east. From the distance of the mountains, she judges the trip will take a day and a half, maybe two days.

The party begins the trek north. You reach the treeline without any trouble - no savage beasts or monstrous humanoids to be found. Continuing north into the woods, Cay Harbor fades from view and you eventually find yourselves fully surrounded by nature. Sightings of mundane beasts, from squirrels scurrying about to massive elks running through the brush, become common occurrences.

[sblock=Luinnar]Now seems a good time for your blink dog to show up.[/sblock]

As she walks Beatrice recounts a tale of her adventures, how she single handily fought off a horde of undead and saved a village from being eaten alive. She does not add the part where she raided the village treasury as her reward soon after.

Suddenly there is a rustle in the bushes nearby and a large dog jumps out. It growls at the party then spotting Beatrice, leaps on her and knocks her to the ground.

Off Killer! Off you mangy mutt! Beatrice says scolding to the animal. It obeys. Why I have not seen you since Ravenloft. I'm surprised you found your way out of there!

This is killer, I found him in my travels.
she says turning to the party. He was my only companion. Very useful too once I taught him how to teleport through windows and open the door from the inside.

Well Killer, ready for more adventure? The Blink Dog barks happily runs around in circles then teleports to her side. Lets go then!

Damen volunteer's to scout ahead in the brush, as it does not seem to slow him down any.
OOC: Damen effectively has Forest Walk, so he'll scout. Passive Stealth of 29 unless you want me to roll it.

Damen scouts ahead of the party, and his wariness pays off. He spots a massive bear directly in the group's path and is able to steer everyone away while remaining unobserved himself. It isn't the only close encounter during the trek; throughout the early afternoon, a pack of wolves periodically howl from behind the party, as if they're stalking the heroes. But as evening approaches, the howls stop and no more animals are seen - not even birds.

The party reaches the edge of the swamp as darkness begins to fall, so you decide it's a good place to make camp. It is an extremely quiet night. You felt surrounded by living things in the earlier section of the forest, but here... there's nothing.

The night is uneventful, if tense due to the unnatural silence. In the morning, when everyone is ready, you continue into the swamp on your best-guess course to Toeto's tribe. A few hours of trudging through the swampwater follows. There aren't even any trails to follow, so the experience is thoroughly unenjoyable. On the bright side, the mountains in the far distance do seem to be turning east, as the map showed. With any luck, you'll reach the lizardfolk tribe soon.

"Caw!" you all hear something cry out loudly from just ahead in the swamp. You guess it to be a bird, but there's something wrong with the noise. It almost sounds like a man poorly imitating a bird. A few moments later, it steps into view from behind a copse of trees.

[sblock=Nature 24]That almost looks like a lizardfolk! Or rather, it looks half-lizardfolk and half bird. It appears to be flightless.[/sblock]
Whatever the thing is, it doesn't seem pleased to see you. It rakes the muddy swampwater with a clawed foot as if preparing to charge. The cawing continues, but apparently from another one of the bird-lizards. This one remains silent while another one steps out beside it, shrieking angrily and repeatedly at you. The noise is absolutely piercing; you feel a headache coming on just listening to the thing squawk at you. The ruckus attracts the attention of yet another pair of the things on the other side of the trees. Again, one of them squawks and the other remains silent.

Suddenly, the bird-lizards begin to charge! They take off straight at you, kicking up swamp water with each step and closing the distance alarmingly fast.

GM: Please place yourself on the map anywhere in rows Q, R, or S.
The bird-lizards get a 12 on initiative. If you beat that, you can act first. Then they'll go, then everyone else again.

Would anyone like to run Yishim until ronakshah gets back?
