Because once people stake a position on a stupid internet issue, they can't back down.

Anyway, for those paying attention, the real notable thing is that Musk has continued his particular descent into a certain kind of identification. Note that he is fine playing hyper-violent games (as he has done in the past).

He did, however, find it necessary to say that he was turned off by a game that involved violence and the police.

I will leave it up to others as to why that is inconsistent with Musk's videogaming habits, but perfectly consistent with the other things he has been up to.
I mean, I don't share ehos political...whatever that is, and calling out the cop thing is a bit off, but I also enjoy violent video games but find GTA a bridge too far. Maybe I'm overly sympathetic to his fake point, when he is really just using it as a clownish dog whistle (yeah, probably)...

If it was "I don't play D&D because it has magic" we would all be rolling our eyes and having a good laugh about the reason.

Sure, I can probably think of a bunch of ridiculous things someone could say that would make me laugh. Saying they don’t like pretending to commit real world crimes in a video game isn’t anywhere close.

My take on Musk's GTA comment was that it was either a thinly veiled call out to "Blue Lives Matter", or someone at Rockstar tweeted something mean about him.
Wouldn't shock me either way: but I can happily say that Black Lives Matter, and have no beef with Rockstar, and I actually feel that way about GTA. Comparing discomfort with GTA violence and other issues to the Satanic Panoc seems in particularlypoor taste to me. Makes the Twitter roasting rather grotesque. Like is someone said on Twitter "I don't like ginger, it's too spicy for me" and then got dogpiled.

okay so my initial reaction to the tweet was "haha" with an eye roll. If one of my RL friends had given me the same reason for not wanting to play GTA I would have responded with "umm okay" and moved on.

This is the internet, if you've got the public presence such as Musk does you're going to mocked/roasted for your takes (whatever they maybe) on subjects.

This whole thing could/should have just been the one post instead of three or four pages.

There is no outrage other than haha also the lead up to SR4 is "the main gang has become so popular" I mean you could have just rolled your eyes instead of defending his take or laughed along with it.....

The issue for many is that his take aligns with the moral panic that has historically surrounded GTA, as it's been commonly cited in the "violence in video games" debate.

OR to put it in RPG terms The 80s Satan panic because you're playing games with magic and that could lead you to the devil and devil worshipping or something i dunno

I mean this is a strange hill to stand on to defend the guy...but you guys do you
I'm not defending his moral character, but his take on these particular games is far from unique - I share it, as do others in this thread.

I've nothing against the GTA games, they're just not my cup of tea, but when you're laughing at some douchebag celebrity mogul for saying he draws the line at killing cops in videogames, you're also laughing at me. So yeah, I take it personally, and I defend that point of view, independently of the person who's espousing it.

No offense meant to you, but that's the way a lot of bad actors get traction. Musk wasn't relating to you in any way, but by managing to find something you believe in and tying his personal brand to it, he got you to fight for him on the internet.

How many people sided with NuTSR early on because they dislike WotC?
