Drowquest [4e] Raiding the Road (Hiatus)

Phaezen

Adventurer
Drisdhaun watches Vorgrym training the goblins for a while, the guides the "champion" and Cloudkill into a seperate chamber and spends some time trying to understand goblin tactics and improving on them a bit.

[sblock=ooc]
1. Have we discovered the name of this tribe yet?

2. The training and raiding could possibly be done via some kind of skill challenge?

Raelyn smiles and encourages the new goblin recruits, regaling them with tales of battles won and enemies vanquished, all the while mocking them to his companions with Drow hand signals. It is clear he is enjoying this immensely.

When one of the golins addresses him, he pretends not to hear. Bored with the goblins, he takes out his flute and begins to play.

One of the older goblins admits being able to read.

vorgrym & Nashquari [sblock]
Vorgrym, acidic is fine.
Nashquari I had in mind a staff that can has a daily - daze targets hit with an attack, TENT. level 4
with some lovely refluffing [/sblock]

"You, come here, I require your presence" Nashquiri orders the older goblin. He will take the goblin aside and say "Where did you learn to read? Are there texts here?"

[sblock=EVH]
That sounds fun and would fit with the mind-affecting way I'm playing Nashquiri

Djaar casually walks into the barracks. Healthy children front and center! He waits patiently for the scared and hesitant children who do come forward.
Lovely, class will begin now, you lucky children will have the finest teacher. Me. Class this evening starts with cleaning.

Djaar takes the children and explains what "unsanitary" means, giving examples such as the rats in the stew, (the class explained that was dinner), the slime along the walls, (the class explained that was the bathroom), and a number of other unhealthy conditions.
Children, before bedtime, this will all be cleaned. Dinner will be much better than rat, and tomorrows lesson will be more fun.

The class perked up at hearing tomorrow's lesson would not be grunt work.
Tomorrow we will be doing games. The little goblins begins mucking about, over-excited at the prospect, Djaar flicks a few ears before continuing, Games will only be had if the complex is clean before class tomorrow. Otherwise we will have testing. The goblins haven't heard of testing too often, but the emphasis that Djaar gives the word, and the idea that it is opposite of games is enough to shake the little green monsters.

Djaar smiles to himself, what will be games for the children will be tests anyway. Today the complex would be cleaned, tomorrow the children with promise would be identified. Those with enough sense that they may be able to read one day, will be separated from those who would beat them senseless. Djaar could see the plan forming already.

After learning each young goblin's name, Djaar awards the student who had been most attentive, giving him a small toy (really just a small rock attached to a larger rock, think ball in cup).

He then takes up his position at the entrance and awaits the others, so that they may scout the area and bring back game to eat. Making a mental note to discuss were the complex would be installing bathrooms...

[sblock=OOC]

Yes Djaar's voice has changed, he doesn't speak in blue any longer. His attitude and demeanor have changed dramatically with his new found confidence and power.

Changed to cyan, for a second it was Magenta, but I don't want to step on Raelyn's toes...

Nashquiri the older goblin stammers and admits that he used to work for a Hobgoblin clan and they taught the goblins to read. We don’t have no books, they all got used up.

Javlix, you have heard there is good hunting just before dawn, do you go and if so, do you take any goblins to help?

*later* [sblock=nashquiri]
When Nashquiri wakes up from his trance, he discovers his staff covered in spider webs, attempting to brush them off shows that the webs are mere figments. Grasping the staff firmly, he feels hundreds of tiny spiders swarming off the staff, and up his arm. He feels them but cannot see, or brush them off. Mastering his will he forces himself to believe that the staff is unchanged, that none of these things are real. Slowly the webs and crawling sensations fade away. What he can’t will away are the carvings of spiders and webs now ingrained into the staff, ready to be unleashed against enemies.
+1 Fey swarm staff (AV pg 104)
Crit: target is dazed by webbing and tiny spiders until TENT
Daily: (free action) use this power after a hit, target is dazed TENT.

OOC:
Training and small raids can be handled as skill rolls, but for important fights we will go tactical.
Questions:
What is your ideal raid strategy?
Is anyone not going to use a bodyguard?
Is it worth attacking a single, poorly defended wagon? (usually seen during daylight)

OOC: No bodyguard for me. Ideal raid strategy. Have goblins and runners posted to where we can communicate to whether we want to take a caravan. If we take a caravan, have a place set up where we have cover and can hide(maybe higher ground). Perhaps we can set ambushes, by moving signs and leading caravans to dead ends.

I'll try to email you those write-ups Evilhalfling, sometime tonight or tomorrow.

If Javilex takes a goblin, Djaar will, if Javilex does not, Djaar won't.

Trying to preserve the stealth ability.

Djaar is definitely scouting, and trying to hunt game.

Battle strategy:

-Goblins posted as watch, they aren't intelligent, so the best we can expect is advanced warning of arrival.

-If we decide to take the passing caravan, herd to a more opportune location, include traps.

-Have goblin clean up crew remove debris and store inventory. (Reader should note items as they come in.)

-Short rest waiting for next caravan.

(Djaar will always have a bodyguard, hiding during the battle wielding a healing potion if he has access to one.)

Single poorly defended caravans should be led to a point where we can take prisoners. We should gather as much binding as we can find to restrain anything we capture.

The goblins can clean up the mess after, and we can move right into the next encounter.

We are taking a rest after hunting and eating correct?

Javilex takes no goblin follower, as he much prefers the four-legged variety over the smelly, obnoxious, stupid, two-legged kind. If he is going to be stuck here in this hellhole of a den, he's going to do his best to avoid its former tennants as best he can.

When the group decides to go after a caravan, he sends Saereth out to be a spotter.

Hunting in the wilds is harder than it looks.

Trees, bushes, way too much open space. The colors are wrong, the light is too bright, its practically obscene the way the sun just floats up there in the sky all alone. It even hurts to look at.

Saereth manages to catch something small and furry, enough for a meal for the two of you or an appetizer if split with your companions.

OOC: Javlix nature 3+3-2=4, Spider 17+1-2=16; evening CRIT

Djaar wants to go hunting again that evening, and that goes much better with Saereth doing most of the catching.

OOC: You are all planning on going after caravans in the daylight, right?
and this would start 24hrs later. okay.
