D&D (2024) Expectations for Patch 9?

Okay we know Monk and Druid will be in it, but any classes or subclasses from Patch 7 that don't pass muster.

And yes I think we all know Bard should have been in it as well given how important the now gone Source Spell Lists were to it. It's possible Jeremy Crawford misspoke on that I hope, it's not unheard of for Jeremy to make a mistake.

I think this has to be were we get any other none cantrip spells revised that haven't been yet, and the new spells they want to add. Stuff like Planar Ally needs to be fixed.

Beyond that any revised & new feats we haven't seen yet. And anything else they decide to add at the last minute.

It's possible there will be a revised version of Bastions, but that likely won't be till Packet 10.

I still hope they add Aasimar and Genasi to the PHB. Aasimar we're apart of the 3e SRD and Aasimar are a core race (DMG is still Core).

Honestly I'm not sure if their will be another player Packet after 9, unlike what was planned, because there simply isn't much left.

We know only rhe Open Hand Monk and Moon Druid from UA 6 are getting any more attention in UA. I think that Barbarian, Fighter, and Wizard should be good to go, and maybe Sorcerwr too. I expect then that we will see Monk, Druid and Warlock one Las time, maybe Feats and and character generation final bits.

You think we will see the Warlock again? I think it's only minor changes it needs now. I will say I was wrong about WotC picking the Clockwork Sorcerer subclass because it was easier, it's that they priorized a theme over most iconic status. I get it, but I'd have preferred the DS. Oh well, at least it means the Fey Wanderer will be in, dispite being far less iconic then some.

From Playtest Packet 6:
  • Bard: Done. I agree with you that we should look at the spell list. Especially what bard baseline/cantrip damage should be given True Strike rivals firebolt.
  • Cleric: Probably done.
  • Druid: In. Wild Shape and Moon need another go
  • Monk: In
  • Paladin: Mostly done. I don't know that they've settled on the model for Smites. (I'm hoping class feature that opens up)
  • Ranger: Done.
  • Rogue: Done. Scaling issues in mid-late tier 3. Vex is such a huge gift.
From Playtest Packet 7:
  • Barbarian: Not satisfied (but getting there) - martial scaling issues. But I don't think they care that martials fail at tier 3-4.
  • Fighter: what is a Tier 4 fighter? Brawler 100% needs a rework or to be replaced with something that's a least vaguely functional.
  • Sorcerer: I want to see the feedback on Wild and Draconic - and to give both groups an expanded spell list.
  • Warlock: Almost done - and the slight nerfs to Pact of the Blade can be handled internally. That's just math balancing. I'd rather see them be more adventurous in pact magic recovery - but they've definitely polished it significantly.
  • Wizard: Ehhh. I think it's done.

If any of the UA 7 Classes need work still, I'd think it's the Warlock: it's one of the Classes with frustrations for players, and rheybstarted with the most radical change proposal in the whole playtest. Feel pretty confident that Fighter, Barbarian, and Wizard are good to go, at least, so somewhere between 2-4 Classes. Mayne another go at the Brawler, possibly.

I agree with the Brawler, that seems to be taking more heat.

You don't seem as sure of the Sorcerer, what might the sticking point be their.

Brawler fighter and WorldTree barbarian both need work. I feel like the warlock will get one more pass and I feel that sorcerer still needs a bit more attention. I am upset that ranger isn't getting another pass.

I am thinking that for 10 it might be something like spells if they do more phb stuff or another pass on races and feats but I think they are done with both of those.

That's strange. I swear I read somewhere (maybe on DDB) exactly what was going to be in the next UA. But now I'm looking for it and can't find it anywhere.

EDIT: I must have been thinking of this post by @Parmandur which only lists a few definite UA9 items.

I expect that we are only seeing open hand monk because it will actually be their way of presenting a revamped chassis for the whole class - i.e. the changes to action economy and discipline points management can be projected onto the other subclasses.

I am very confident that we will see a significant increase in the monks' ability to do basic monk stuff.

For moon druids...I dunno! I think they are in a real pickle because there are obvious problems with the current version, but everything they've proposed has annoyed the folks who like the current version. It can't be just nerfs, and it can't be templates. Also, memo to WotC: not one player ever made a moon druid because they want to push the moonbeam spell around. They want to turn into beasts, or beast-like creatures, and wreck face. See your own movie (the recent one. Not the 2000 one).

In my feedback, I offered fixes for both monks and moon druids, and therefore I feel that I have solved their problems for them and they should just go with my proposals, because my proposals are perfect. However, it is possible that I am slightly biased.
