It's the typical Marvel (Guardians of the Galaxy, D&D: Honor Among Thieves) tone of wisecracking heroes facing world-ending threats.
Which is - honestly - not incredibly off from the tone of the original Ghostbusters.

Between this and the Beverly Hills Cop revival, these movies mostly just serve to remind me how old I am. I could honestly do without the original cast in this.

Tom Cruise gets away with it in Top Gun Maverick and Mission Impossible because he just doesn't seem to age, but these guys are all seriously wearing their years.

Not exactly. This seems to weave between screwball comedy and serious horror mystery. More like Stranger Things than Ghostbusters, but then again, Afterlife was like that too.
