“I agree with the orc. We should try to avoid a fight with the ogre. We might defeat it, but it would cost us plenty.” She shouldered her glaive. “Ripnek, work with Karok. Show him where the ogre was so we can move around.”

Ripnek looks at Drutha with an expression of surprise and a bit of disgust before shrugging. He moves to Karok and states simply, "Come. Ripnek show you where ogre home is."

About five minutes later, Ripnek halts the group. There's a clear trail ahead that leads all the way down to the foothills, where you planned to camp. The ogre's cave is out of sight alongside the trail, a few minutes ahead.

The problem is, there's not a good way to avoid the area of the ogre's cave on this trail. On either side of the trail the slope is quite steep, either up or down at various points. You can cut over to the next mountainside to find a different path down, though it will cost you some time.

"Now what?" says Ripnek. "Can't pass without being seen. Going around takes forever. And Ripnek is tired."

As if to emphasize his last point, the bugbear gives a great big yawn.

"We need a distraction," Saashala says. "Something to take the ogre's attention while we slip past."

She looks around for something in the environment that might suffice for the task.

Nert eyes the goat, then thinks better of it, remembering the last time someone suggested the goat was food. He then joins in Saashala's search for something to distract the ogre.

Drutha leaned on her glaive as she studied the narrow trail that went past the ogre’s lair. “Let’s go around,” she said. “No sense tangling with an ogre we don’t have to.”

"Could distract the ogre with a little one," Ripnek says while looking to the goblin. "Small meal to give us time to move."

It is not entirely clear if the bugbear is serious or not.

The environment is not exactly brimming with obvious Ogre distractions. There's rocks -- from pebbles to fist-sized to the occasional boulder. Trees -- and fallen sticks, branches, and trunks. Though since the trees aren't too dense it might take a bit of gathering to find things of a particular size. Leaves -- both on the trees and on the ground. The occasional bush and vine and white or green fungus growing around. Water flowing here and there through the creases in the rock.

It's not that there aren't raw materials, it's that you'd have to get creative. :)

Moon Moon shrugs. "Just one ogre? Thought more... set trap? Hit run hit run? Bait?"

OOC: It's always a gamble, but someone dodging or kiting and being spread out should be enough to take down a single ogre. No need to agonize over it unless someone has an actual clever idea. Are we on a hill overlooking this cave?
