Karok glances at the figure, though he reserves his judgement. Weak looking women in robes have been among the most vicious of the Orc Tribes, and often command magics the like few others can compare. He approached, digging his staff into the ground with each step, and stood strong before the figure next to the groveling Kobold. He would not show weakness. Not here.

Ripnek is intrigued by the one who calls herself Boss, but he tries hard not to let it show. He fakes a yawn and slowly moves over to the newcomer, dropping down on the ground and laying down in a comfortable position. He ignores the goblin and kobold for now, but keeps his eyes on the others, studying them for strengths and weaknesses. At last he turns to the Boss and states, "Ripnek is listening."

Drutha’s cool gaze passed over the others, settling a moment on the kobold that stumbled into the clearing and announced himself before starting to play with fire. She met the bugbear’s gaze and nodded in acknowledgement of his submission. At least one here knew his proper place.

The orc may prove the greater challenge.

“What now, Boss?” the goblin asked.

“Now we wait,” the orc replied.

Drutha glowered at him, stepping forward. “Do we?” she challenged.

Before she could push the issue, however, an old crone emerged from the woods, claiming she would be the boss.

As the others arranged themselves at the fire, Drutha hung back, watching. Finally she approached, taking a position standing at the fire, leaning lightly on her glaive as she awaited the woman’s pleasure.

"I think we can arrange for you to show off," she grumbles.

Then the tip of her walking stick begins to glow red, and she sketches a map in the dirt.

"We're here," she says, drawing a tiny campfire to the Northeast. The strokes glow brightly in the dirt, even as the staff moves on. "Toward the edge of the forest." She fills on the border of a forest, surrounding the fire.

"You probably came from here," she nods at Karok, adding mountains to the West of the forest. "Though perhaps you'd prefer this..." and she draws in a river, coming down from the mountains, passing through the tip of the forest, and dividing (or perhaps joining with another) shortly thereafter.

"This, this, is our problem." She draw in some roads, roughly following the river, with two small arches where it crosses the water.

"And this is why we're here." She adds three letters to the map, one in a cleared area nestled between forest and river, one in the foothills of the mountains, and one at the fork in the river. The roads connect them all.

She pauses to admire her handiwork:

OOC: color-coding is mine, because I don't draw as well as her

She points to each letter in turn:
  1. D: "The Dwarves are mining here. They're looking for some kind of buried artifact."
  2. F: "Most of the farms are to the south. But one of the largest is up here, separated from everything else."
  3. T: "This is the trading post. They're trying to build it into a town. You'll laugh at the name."

"So, these are our three problems. Any suggestions for how we deal with them?" She turns her hood toward each of you in turn, making it clear that she'll accept input from anyone. Disconcertingly, you still can't see into it, so it's still a mystery who you're speaking with.

"The mountains will be fortified against intrusion," Karok said, "though most of us would likely be comfortable there." He suppressed a shiver at being underground again. "We can use the river for swift travel."

He studied the map for a short time. "If we attack the town or the farm, they will receive reinforcements from the dwarves...We may need to strike there first. We can then use the river to help travel to the farm, and take out their food supply. Then on to the town. It will have time to prepare, but we will have denied them reinforcements and important supplies."

Karok looked up at the stranger in the cloak, "What can you tell us about the dwarves in the mountains?"

She taps her stick in front of Karok, leaving a little glowing dot on the ground.

Then the hood swivels around again. "Other ideas?"

Ripnek wanted to disagree with the orc, but he knew that dwarves are said to be tough opponents. To suggest a different approach could mean weakness, as if the bugbear was scared to take on the greatest threat. So Ripnek glances at the hobgoblin before answering, "Ripnek is ready to kill dwarfs."

Nert glanced around the group, was that hesitation from the bugbear? Either way what the orc proposed required the most amount of violence - typical.

Nert cleared his throat to get some attention then said in barely a whisper, "Good plan, good for strong and powerful orcs. Only one orc here. Maybe better to attack farm, burn small bit of town, then dwarves reinforce town, leaving mine weaker. No food, no ore no need for town to stay."
