The Tunnels
The passage at the back of the cave is just inches short of ten feet wide with a ceiling height of 7.5 feet. The floor is not smooth by any means, but neither is it overly treacherous. There are puddles of water, mostly brackish, along the passage every few feet that appear to hold the remnants of rain from long ago. You glimpse several tiny creatures scurrying away from your light and into the gloomier depths as you approach. The passage leads back to the north for about thirty feet, where you can see up ahead at the edge of your light (60 feet into the passage you estimate) a darker hole into which the passage plunges. There is also an opening to the east at that same point, where the passage continues on. An indistinct, darkish mass lies near the top of the stairs and a bit off to the west.

As Eldran draws closer, he begins to see that the passage that plunges into darkness is, in fact, a flight of rough-hewn stairs descending into the ebon of the hill's inward parts.There are quite a few cobwebs visible on the staircase. The indistinct mass lying in the first passageway just before the stairs is still somewhat indistinct, but at Eldran's cautious approach it does seem to 'shudder' slightly. Eldran is now 15 feet from the mass and 20 feet from the beginning of the stairs, From here, he can also tell that the passage does indeed continue on to the east. Slowly dripping water can be heard from down that passage.

As Eldran the Ranger cautiously approaches the mass, it seems to somehow sense the approach and shudder a bit. It's surface is moving somewhat, appearing somewhat like the way bedclothes move when someone in the bed is a bit restless -- slow, rhythmic undulations.
