I've also done the "skills are not tethered to a single ability score", so there's strength based intimidate, dex based athletics, str based acrobatics, etc. It's not how the system was built though, but it feels fine to me.

I think it specifically allows for this though. I don't have my PHB on me, but I think it mentions it somewhere in a sidebar. I'm also a big fan of that approach, but I generally call for standard checks unless a player gives a plausible request.

I'm wondering if each handle represents a plane or something and the clue is this planetarium thing is the clue in that the ones spewing out gnats ain't safe.
