Narančasta and Siva

With Narančasta's defensive preparations put into place the red candle is lit. It flickers brightly in the dim light and it seems that nothing will happen when there is an answering flicker from the eyes of the dragon-prowed ship. Surely it was just your imagination. A moment later the ship turns and glides towards the shore causing barely a ripple in the water. It stops just a few feet offshore. A short wade and an easy climb and the ship can be boarded.

Narančasta watches the ship approach from the top of the menhir. From this vantage point he has a better view of the deck of the boat. He watches carefully for any sign of occupation.

Siva watches the ship ghost ashore.

Ghost; not the best choice of word. She shivers.

Bow ready, she moves along the edge of the shore to get a better view of the length of the ship and to provide cover for those boarding.

If all seems clear, Narančasta clatters down the steps and crosses the sands to the edge of the sea before walking out to a point where he can get aboard.

The ship is open, there is no deck, and so Narančasta is able to look down and see that it is empty save for a set of long oars stowed along the side of the ship. The others are able to board with ease, except Borok and Zim who stand aside and give each other wary glances. Borok speaks up.

"We ain't going with you. We talked it over a bit back there on the stair and we decided we're going back to the village. We made up our mind so don't try to talk us out of it. You think you need anything we got hold of then you're welcome to it. We ain't gonna need fighting gear back in Krivstad. Good luck." He turns and Zim waves briefly but turns and goes with him.

As they turn away the dragon-prowed longship turns towards the light across the sea and begins moving through the gloom. Water laps quietly against the side of the ship and the gentle movement across the sea is lulling. You judge you have traveled about halfway to the island when black tentacles rise from the water and wave silently and menacingly off the side of the ship.

[sblock=OOC]I expected at least once a week posting from fireinthedust. We didn't get that, so I'm removing him and his characters from the game.[/sblock]

Siva gives each of them a hug (and presses her coins into Xim's hand; "Give this to your family.") before climbing into the boat after the others.

[sblock=OOC]Apart from their own stuff, Zim has the iron axe. Borok has Aleric's longsword. And they both have their share of the coin, plus Siva's now. All of which they should keep. I can't remember if Borok used his Holy Water. That would be worth hanging onto.[/sblock]

Narančasta sighs and shifts into a fighting stance.

Siva nocks an arrow, but holds her fire until it is clear that the tentacles are going to attack. Like there is any chance that they will not ...

"Shhhssh! Be still. Perhaps it will not notice us," she hisses to the others.

The dragon boat continues its slow progress towards the island. The waving tentacles keep pace with the ship but make no move towards the boat. Almost as if they are waiting for... something. Looking ahead, details of the light are beginning to be made out though at this distance about all you can discern is that there is a pyramidal shaped island with a light, perhaps a fire, on top.

Siva and Narančasta

Narančasta watches the tentacles with a growing sense of dread. What are they waiting for?

The image of the line of human tracks leading to the spot on the shore where the boat beached returns to Narančasta. They were put on this boat ... Is that monster below there to prevent us jumping ship? Or to remove us when we arrive? Should we attack now before it tries to collect us, or leave it undisturbed.

"Siva, if ever there was a time we could do with a little divine guidance ..." He glances over at the tentacles and then the shore ahead.

Siva shoots her brother a dirty look.

She pulls one of the platinum pieces from her pouch and draws herself up to her full height.

"Oh Mistress Ildavir!" she cries. "Protector of the Natural World, Bane of the Abominable accept this Sacrifice made in your name and to your Glory!"

She hurls the coin overboard.

"Look kindly on our Quest to Slay the Foul Perversions of Nature and Abominable Servants of the Gods of Chaos! Hear my Humble Request! Grant us the benefit of your Wisdom and Guidance in this time of Need!"

[sblock=OOC]That single solitary 1 at the top of the page is very disconcerting ...

The sacrifice is probably a bit premature. But I just like the visual image it presented. I think Siva's disapproval was 3, not 2 as her sheet says.

Now to hit post and see what happens ...[/sblock]

With the tentacles hovering over the boat Siva can only hope she has time to finish her spell before something unpleasant happens.
