Can we take 10 on our rolls? Lookspring needs 20 climb checks to descend the whole way.
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/usingSkills.htm#checksWithoutRolls

If we can take 10, then I'll do that. Otherwise, here are the remaining 19 rolls needed...
On the Rope: Climbing on the rope (1d20 6=8, 1d20 6=18, 1d20 6=20, 1d20 6=19, 1d20 6=16, 1d20 6=21, 1d20 6=14, 1d20 6=7, 1d20 6=26)
Off the Rope:Climbing on the wall (1d20 4=20, 1d20 4=20, 1d20 4=17, 1d20 4=6, 1d20 4=23, 1d20 4=13, 1d20 4=17, 1d20 4=22, 1d20 4=9, 1d20 4=16)

ooc:Taking 10 is okay if that would give a DC of 15 for the rope and 20 without the rope. Allowing this for lookspring climbing down the rope but not for the wall without rope because that would be a failed skill check.

Lookspring moves slowly down the rope as Rowan and Phoenix watch from above. He reaches the end of the rope and continues down clinging to the wall another 10' and he struggles to find a hold (17 means no progress) then slips and falls (6 deffinate fall)

ooc: DC to catch the wall and stop falling is 40, of course natural 20 is a success. He could also attempt to tumble to reduce damage upon the stop at the end of the fall.

Releasing the rope, Lookspring manages to climb down a bit further when suddenly a rock he was clinging to pulls free. He scratches frantically at the wall as he tilts backwards and then plummets. Twisting in the air in an attempt to reorient himself, he releases an ear splitting yowl before abruptly slamming into the cave floor. His head strikes a rock and he blacks out.
A few moments pass before he stirs, slowly coming to his senses, and raising himself to his hands and knees. He hears a noise from above and looks up in time to see Phoenix falling.

Lookspring catch the wall (1d20 4=6)
Lookspring Tumble (1d20 7=19)

Rowan will stash his armor and as much else as possible in Phoenix's bag of holding. "What a handy little bag." he mutters in amazement as he does so.

He is taken aback by Phoenix's display of affection before she goes over. It happens so fast that he doesn't even have time to suggest a 15 minute wait before going over after Lookspring. Instead, he just watches her go down. Seeing both of his friends alive at the bottom, he goes himself.

Clinching his sunrod between his teeth, and wearing only his sword, he swings himself over. He skillfully descends the rope. Sadly, he falls immediately after letting go of it. He tries to turn and roll with his impact, but fails. Fortunately he isn't badly hurt.

OOC: Unarmored, Rowan's clinb check is +9, or +11 w/rope. One more rank, & he could take 20 on the climb. The thing is, if he rages, he can increase his strength by 4, which actually increases his climb check by 2. While raging though, the barbarian cannot use "any abilities that require patience or concentration", which would presumably include climbing. So he won't rage, but will instead make the rolls. His rolls suck as usual. At least his damage roll was low too!

ooc: the total climb was 150' - I left it vague due to difficulty determining the distance of a torch that fell that far landing in thick dust.

Lookspring fails to find a hold as he falls but tumbles before crashing to the ground in a cloud of dust. Falling 90’ Lookspring takes damage for 80’ with 20’ being nonlethal damage 3pts and 25pts lethal damage. Lying barely conscious, twisted and broken he manages to get hold of the healing wand. As he watches Phoenix falling after him. He begins dragging his broken body out her way.

Phoenix climbes a few feet down the rope and slips falling and frantically grabs the rope again stopping her fall. As she begins her descent once again she falls. Phoenix forces her mindblade into the wall to right herself as she decends finally crashing to the floor in a cloud of dust. Phoenix takes damage for 120’ with 20’ being nonlethal damage 5pts and 27pts lethal damage. Lying twisted and broken she looks up to see Rowan climb down the rope and then fall the rest of the way to the floor causing yet another cloud of dust.

Rowan slips from the wall falling after releasing the rope and flails wildly as he tries to right himself until crashing to the floor. He falls 100’ but fares much better than Phoenix and Lookspring taking only 16pts damage in his rough landing. ooc: I just doubled Rowans damage rolled.

Lookspring 28pts damage

Phoenix 32 pts damage

Rowan 16 pts damage

Phoenix- F Elan Soulknife 5 (AC: 20, HP: 30/50, PP: 0/6)

Landing hard in the ground, Phoenix looks to one side to see Lookspring barely conscious and holding the wand to heal himself. Rolling over the other direction towards Rowan, she unleashes her inner fire to help heal her devastating wounds. With a sizzle, the fires caress her as she pulls her one broken arm straight with an agonizing pop. The fire soon burns away the pain though leaving her healed of her worst injuries. Happy to be alive and gazing at Rowan, she says weakly "Next time, I think I need alot more luck than that..."

Slowly getting to one knee, she first pulls out her and Rowans equipment and starts buckling on her armor. She accepts any healing from the wand that Lookspring offers while looking around the area they are now in with their lights held out. She also searches the other body which they threw off the cliff before checking for items. (not likely, I know. She's thourough though.)

Lookspring spends the next few minutes hissing in pain as bones and torn ligaments realign under the repeated use of his healing wand. Once he is able to move around again, he approaches Phoenix and administers the same treatment. Turning to Rowan he says, "This wand is almost dry, you'll be needing to use your own on her and yourself." He starts looking around the chamber, wondering just what he's gotten himself in to. Perhaps we should have been going back for more rope...

Rowan grumbles as he pulls himself shakily to his feet. He's still mad at himself for not figuring out a better way down. He says little as he puts his armor on, and feels a bit awkward with Phoenix. Finally he pulls out his wand. "It is a good idea to have two wands that work. That way if one is lost or if one of us is out, we can use the other."

Rowan then uses one charge on himself and one on Phoenix.

"Well, we sure ain't going back the way we came, so let's see what's ahead."

OOC: 48 charges left. Heal results: 4 healed for him, 2 for Phoenix. I'll try keeping track of wand charges on his first post in this thread as well as his posts as we go.

OOC: Manzanita, just count both of those healings towards Rowan. After the 19 HPs back from Lookspring's wand, Phoenix is only down 1 HP.
