Lookspring shuffles backwards away from the holes. He fingers his weapons nervously while his eyes dart back and forth, scanning the dark recesses for signs of scuttling critters. He hisses to his companions, "Bugs, giant ones! Just like the ones we saw in that old rotten house. They're in the walls, I am hearing them scuttling around, dripping poison from their oversized mandibles, feelers waving in the air tasting for our scent..." He shudders. "If we are being quiet and not giving off much smell maybe they will not be coming out to hunt..."

Phoenix says quietly "So if staying still and quiet is desirable, then maybe resting now isn't such a bad idea after all? Lookspring, you're too nervous about the bugs like what we found in that house. But since you're kinda jittery about it already, why don't you watch first and wake me to take over in a few hours."

 

[Manzanita]

Rowan isn't ready to sleep & doesn't want to take off his armor if there are giant poisonous bugs around anyway. He feels a bit self-conscious. He holds his guisarme restlessly. "I'll stay up a bit too."

 

[BigB]

Phoenix attempts to get comfortable and rest while Lookspring takes first watch and Rowan stays awake and alert a while with him. An hour into first watch Lookspring and Rowan notice that an offensive odor, musty and sickening, suddenly intensifies to a nauseating level. A vibrating thrum, as if thousands of miniscule feet are rustling on stone, comes to a crescendo as every one of the open holes spews a bristling swarm of black cockroaches. Phoenix awakens to the rancid smell and is prone. Roaches quickly cover the floor. Giant cockroaches, hissing and eager to feed, follow their little cousins from the holes. Some take flight flying high out of reach.

All characters need to make a fortitude save and initiative roll.

Phoenix awakens, choking on the offensive odor as the room is suddenly bombarded with huge bugs! The smaller ones quickly swarm over the floor of the room, some of them crawling up and into her armor and clothes with a wriggling touch that makes her skin crawl and causes her stomach to lurch in a sickening manner. As soon as she is able she stands up, while her mindblade is instantly ignited before she even reaches her feet.

OOC: Rowan's init 20, fort save 20

"Backs together!" Rowan shouts. He takes up position with his back to the center and readies an action to smack the first large roach to come within 10 feet.

OOC2: Rowan has combat reflexes, so he can make 3 AoO's per round. He won't use power attacks vs these critters, but might use combat expertise later.

Looksprings ears perk up at the distant scrabbling sounds. Fear clenches his heart as he sees the swarm emerge from their nests. They're everywhere... there's no where to run! I'll die in this dank pit, feasted upon by bugs! The fear in his heart paralyzes him for a moment before he begins to react.

Order:
Rowan- Waiting for the targets to present themselves moves in a blur of action as bug guts fly from his guisarme as thrusts and turns in place catching GR#1 for 6pts, skewering LR#3 on his guisarme and missing LR#1 as it dives at Phoenix from above and missing LR#2 scurrying for Phoenix

Giant Roach #1 - attacks Rowan its bite penetrates his armor for 13pts damage and attempts to trip the big man (14 needed for Strength check by Rowan or be prone next round)

Swarm - (attacks Phoenix for 6pts of damage) The carpet of Roaches slithers over Phoenix biting at soft flesh with thousands of tiny mouths.

Giant Roach #2 - attacks Lookspring but the agile Katara twists away from the bug.

Large Roach #3 - attacks Rowan getting skewered in the process.

Phoenix - Nauseated - able to stand but that is it as she is wretching up anything she has eaten recently.

Large Roach #1 - attacks Phoenix by flying and diving at her but misses as avoids Rowans attack.

Large Roach #2 - attacks Phoenix rushing in among the swarm of tiny roaches but once again does find flesh as it avoids the slashing and stabbing guisarme that seems to be everywhere.

Lookspring - Lashes out with his hand axe as GR#2 gets near cracking the bugs shell as bug guts ooze 4pts damage

Large Roach #4 - attacks Rowan but does not find a way through his armor.

Rowan and Lookspring get AoO at the Roaches charging them and Rowan attacks first.

ooc: each round all 3 characters need a fortitude check or be Nauseated for the round.

roach wars!

Rowan is ready when the roaches come attacking. His guisarme slashes through the air with amazing speed. At least two of the giant roaches are hit. He then smacks another before being overrun.

OOC: Fort save already made for round 1, right? What's the DC? Rowan's attacks are:

So he does 6 dmg to roach 1, 9 dmg to roach 2, once they enter his space. He probably misses roach 3, then his normal attack is against any roach 10 feet away, which probably also misses. I'm not sure what you'll drop his initiative to. He basically delayed his action until he could hit something with his guisarme, but would want to take his AoOs first.

He'll probably have to drop his guisarme next round, as he can't back away to continue to fight with his reach weapon. His AC is 18

Lookspring slashes wildly at the nearest roach as is passes close at hand. The smell of ichor fills the air as shells crack and feelers are severed. Wide-eyed, he dances back and forth in indecision for a moment. After seeing Rowan holding his own against multiple opponents, he turns to Phoenix. Seeing the swarm overwhelm her, he moves to grab the nearest lit torch and hurls it at her feet.
