Yeah it cancels out advantage meaning if They have advantage and disadvantage it wouldn’t cancel each other out, but advantage would go away.

I don't think it would work that way. You would do the cancelling first, then only if it results in advantage would the shifter's ability be triggered.

No advantage = shifter's ability is not triggered, so it can only ever turn advantage into normal, not normal (cancelled) into disadvantage.

Escape the horde (Ranger level 7) does give disad. on opportunity attacks versus you.
