World of Warcraft - the Adventure Game

G'day, all!

I've received my new copy of World of Warcraft, the Adventure Game (not the Board Game), the new FFG game for 2-4 players set in the WoW. Plays in 90-120 minutes, which is pretty good for a fantasy adventure boardgame. (Talisman, Prophecy, Runebound, Descent all sit about 3+ hours, WoW:tBG is 6+ hours!)

Had a partial game of it with my students today. Didn't get that far, but it plays quickly once you know what you're doing.

Game play is basically:

* Roll a die and move (up to how far you roll)
* Take advantage of a resource in the space
* Fight another hero or a monster. (Defeating monsters give you items).

Very fast play. You also have quest cards which may be "be defeated by another player", "visit these three locations" or "defeat 2 murlocs". They're the only way you gain victory points. If you gain 8 VPs, you win. There's a lot of potential character interaction.

Only four miniatures (and heroes), but over 300 cards. Further expansions will give more characters, but the price is very good.

If you have questions, feel free to ask them!

Cheers!

How would you rate it with other of FFG's games? I've only played Dracula and Arkham Horror, Doom and Descent, so my experience is very limited, but i know that FF makes some incredibly good games no matter what the genre is.

My initial rating of it is extremely favourable. I'm going to give it an "8" on the BGG scale, although this will solidify as I actually get to play a full game. There seems to be plenty to go, it's fast-moving, and there's player interaction without being the "you lose" interaction that Runebound has.

Here's my BGG ratings of Fantasy Flight Games that I've played:

Arkham Horror - 9
Citadels - 8
Colossal Arena - 7
Descent - 7.5
Doom - 7
Drakon - 7
Fury of Dracula - 7
A Game of Thrones - 7
Kingdoms - 7
Lord of the Rings - 7
Runebound - 5 (8 solo)
Starcraft - 8
Talisman - 8
Tide of Iron - 6
War of the Ring - 8
Warrior Knights - 5
Wings of War - Burning Drachens - 7
World of Warcraft - The Adventure Game - 8
World of Warcraft - The Boardgame - 7

Cheers!

What four heroes are included? The game's description sounds like it might be misleading:
FFG said:
Adventure in Azeroth with the new World of Warcraft: the Adventure Game. Play as one of nine powerful classes such as the Warrior, Hunter, or Shaman, and eight exotic races, including the graceful Night Elves and the bestial Tauren. Trek through the snows of Winterspring, get lost in the sandstorms of Tanaris, and roam across the plains of Mulgore. Battle monsters ranging from the fish-like Murlocs to the infernal servants of the Burning Legion.
And do you get extra points if you run around the table, your arms dangling at your sides, making the murloc sound?

The marketing for this game has been weird beyond belief... there's been none. After the initial marketing info (which is out of date), we heard absolutely nothing until it was actually released. That's Blizzard's fault, not FFG.

The four heroes are:
Burbon Fang - Dwarf Hunter
Sandrai Darkshine - Human Warlock
Grumbaz Crosblood - Orc Warrior
Sofeea Icecall - Undead Mage

And do you get extra points if you run around the table, your arms dangling at your sides, making the murloc sound?

*scribbles furiously*

I'll suggest it! :) Would be fun to see!

Here's the updated marketing info:

"Ghoul" sounds odd. It should be "Undead" or "Forsaken", unless this is some tie in to Wrath of the Lich King which I've missed--not that I've been tracking all the WotLK info lately, anyway.

Undead. I'm not a WoW player (never played it at all)... just boardgames, and I forget the races, especially as they aren't listed on the cards.

Cheers!

Thanks for the update. It sounds actually from your descript like a game that I'd detest because of the roll to move aspect. At least, with regard to Talisman, Monopoly, etc type of games where you roll to move, I just find it incredibly boring.
