D&D 4e is pure win and I'll tell you why...

Gamer Women by Definiton

One thing most don't get is that there are different types of gamer females. In the many years I have played RPGs I have met all kinds of gaming females, and I can put them into 3 categories.

Gamer Girl - This is the kind of girl who is attracted to gamers, but is not really herself interested in gaming. She might dabble but really doesn't have a lot of interest in it.

Gamer Chik - This is the girl you meet who is a part of a gamer group. She likes to game herself, but isn't dating anyone right now, and probably wouldn't be dating a gamer if she were.

Gamer Babe - This is the ultimate woman every game guy wants. Not only does she game, she also dates gamers.

In all 3 types I have found beautiful women. So don't sell yourself short on the idea that beautiful women don't play games. Olivia Munn on G4TV is a good example of a one of these women who play.

Gamer Girls

I've known all kinds of women who play D&D, and I've dated at three. Two were incredibly cute (a redhead and a former gymnast) and one was moderately attractive. That doesn't include the other girls I've gamed with that I haven't dated. One was a incredibly good looking girl who is also a fantastic artist and is married with two kids, another is a nurse who I in one night turned from a casual to a chain smoker during a Vampire game. There was also a head turner at Razorbattles who was a Shadowrun addict. And I could go on. Most of the women I've know who play were attractive. And I don't have much room to speak given I'm about 100 lbs overweight.

So I think we can all agree (with the exception of Steely Dan) that many girls who game are not unattractive or grotesque in any way... so back to the OP's thread.

I agree in that I had a similar experience. My wife (then girlfriend) started gaming shortly after 3.5e and played for a while, but then with the deluge of splat books the others at the table brought she felt overwhelmed and decided to take a break (& leave her human monk behind, which is frustrating because she was told how weak the class was...etc.).

When 4e came out she bemoaned me re-buying all the core books, because I had already invested hundreds in 3.xe books. I managed to convince her to try it out and now we have a Tiefling Paladin, looking to redeem her perceived doomed race from their infernal influence and to discover the truth of their creation...

Because strangely enough, some of the things that people have been complaining about are actually working in my favor. To be more specific, I've seen complaints that D&D is more like a boardgame and D&D is like WoW.

Enter the significant other. I tried to get her interested in 3.5, but failed miserably. However, she does like board games, and she does like WoW. I'm sure you see where this is going. The point is, now I get to share a hobby I enjoy with someone I care about.

Btw, she hates anime. So I can say with certainty that D&D 4e is not too anime. ;)
Now, that she has a taste of 4e, try introducing her to 3e.
