There are plenty of people who have as many commitments as the OP - or more - but still find time to game with out neglecting them. It's not that you don't have time to game, it's that you choose to spend your time doing something else.

Which is fine, of course.

I don't miss or long for 4e, but I sure miss and long for some good gaming.

Things have conspired to the point that I no longer do it, and just don't foresee it happening any time soon.

a) Twins.
b) Adult responsibilities.
c) Moved again. No gamer friends yet acquired in the new community.

I would call this "Support group for those whose real-life gets in the way of gaming" meeting to order, but I think we all have families and work to attend to first.

Just have to remember, even though not gaming, we're still doing good things with our lives And, some day, when the stars align, we will have a chance to play regularly again!


Edit: I do manage to be part of a once-a-month game. It does feel infrequent but it's better than nothing and, being realistic, anything more frequent would result in me missing lots of sessions due to one thing or another.

Married with 2 small kids and we both work full-time jobs. Belive me, you are not alone.

We do manage a weekly game from 8:30 to midnight. We're all pretty tired, but it's worth it to play.

Also, if you're exhausted, try exercising. You have to invest in energy to have energy. Even if you're exhausted, more rest does not solve that problem

I'm in the same position. There're a group who play at work, yet I cannot find any time between job, education and family life to give the one evening a week I need to join that group.

I feel your pain.

Currently gearing up for a 4e game. I know because of distance and time constraints, it'll be tough to keep afloat. My players are probably more busy than me. We just do our best to keep a schedule and keep sessions going, then see what happens.

Add me to this list of those who understand where you're coming from. I recently moved to a small town because off my job (RCMP) I also have a fantastic and supportive wife and two beautiful little girls (7) and (2) years who require my attention not to mention, taking care of the house. Add to in to that mix that I currently don't have my own transportation as of yet, I'm somewhat stuck in a small little town with no gamers, and no way to get to the big city which is only 20 minutes away. I miss gaming so much. But I love my family more and know that in time I will be able to game again. You're doing the right thing right now and I believe that eventually you will be able to game again. Good luck and don't lose focus.

Let me chime in with a piece of advice gleaned from my experience:

You never have as much free time as you wish you did.

In my case I don't have the mind-blowing commitments that everyone else has put forth, but I often find that I still feel like I just don't have enough time to do what I want.
