I think it's lame how the double sword is strictly better than a rapier. Now rogues who want to use them will take a significant mechanical penalty.
Double swords don't give much to a rogue other than +1 to AC (from the defensive property), because they don't have any two-weapon fighting talents.

With a rapier, you can still wield a dagger in your other hand, for when you need that extra +1 to hit, or when you need a ranged weapon.

Edit: Actually, the fact that the double sword is a heavy blade as well as a light blade does give an added bonus: the rogue can take the Heavy Blade Opportunity feat, to use his rogue at-will powers for OAs. But rogues don't get OAs very ofteh, so I don't know how useful that is.

Well Drek!

My wife is gonna desperately want to be a "Dwarven Defender" style tempest fighter with an Urgosh, as soon as we can figure out what the actual rules for applying the templates are. I guess we'll have to wait until November.

I mean, there's gotta be a downside, or penalty, or some sort of funnel for sticking the template on your fighter, or is there?

Can we just start test-driving the tempest/urgosh combo now?

Tempest is previewed in this months Ampersand http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dramp/20080905 and by the looks of things the Earthheart Defender PP from the frpg will complete the paragon tier

The AC bonus is nontrivial. The rapier just went, I think, from the rogue's main larger alternative to the dagger to a fringe alternative to the double sword.

(IMC, I'd make the rapier both heavy and light, and the double sword purely heavy.)

Here is a question. Would Eladrin get the Greatspear as part of their Elardrin Soldier feat? Unless it says it doesnt specifically I would say that it does.
