Is ren suppose to be out for a while? I haven't seen anywhere that he's supposed to be gone for a length of time, so I just assumed he was out for the weekend or something.

Ren hasn't been on in a week, but I still think we should wait the usual time. Unless someone has recieved some sort of notification of how long he'll be gone?

To the other players: I think we need to support Victim by posting for rena1g. It's not fair to ask him to run the PCs.

These combats are a lot of work, Victim's making it look easy but it's a grind.

Especially now that we're in the sort of middle rounds; speaking from experience the novelty wears off and it takes a lot of mental stamina to keep pushing a game forward.

I really don't have time to do it (so I'm a hypocrite) but if anybody can take 15 minutes and skim his sheet and pick an action...
I think it'd be appropriate and good and show our support for Victim and the great game he's running.

Can anybody step up?

In my opinion, the main issue isn't the work of running the character. A lot of times I try to think about what I'd do were in your shoes anyway. This is a pretty easy encounter to run too, since most of the enemies are similar, there's not a huge level of interdepence between the monsters and they're clumped up as far as initiative goes. The early stages of last encounter were a lot of work though, since the movements of the briar witch, dryads, and battlebriars were heavily linked because of the aura.

And that's sort of the problem. It's easy for me to sit here and armchair general the PCs with my perfect information of the monsters' abilities, plans and a good idea of what's coming up.

But seeing as how this is a somewhat adversial setup, since the encounters are designed to be brutal, I should not be playing someone on the other side. I mean, I know what my plans for the monsters are, and I know what sorts of things you guys can do to screw them up. It's sort of a conflict of interest. And it subverts the challenge of the game. If the character I NPC shows you how to deal with a problem, then it's not really your win, is it? Especially since we're talking about a leader, and thus someone who will usually have a bigger impact on the actions of your characters.

Unless everyone wants me to go ahead, I would like wait until the 48 hour deadline passes, so I'd be waiting until tommorrow night to update.

I think that Evil Halfling has requested a Shift south and Guarding Strike from Torment this round.

If I have to NPC a character once, I don't restart the clock on NPCing them a second time unless I see the player in between. But that's just me; your game, your rules.

I had a similar problem with Aeloshi in the last game. I knew the staff was AC 30 (or 25 or 20) but the PCs weren't inclined to take up the skill challenge.

Ultimately Aeloshi just wound of shattering it when she was under DM control.

It's more satisfying for everyone, I think if a PC under PC control does something.

Give ren 24 and then
>Shift south and Guarding Strike from Torment this round
with
>inspiring word for Glib....
(we need a sneaky/shifty smilie)

(what? what?)

That's a thought. On the other hand, if he were to be coming back he should have some time to post stuff. On third hand, he should just post something OOC.

I guess I'll throw out the new move now. I like it when things go quickly too.

Damn. Those mounds are getting pretty lucky with their eat people attack.

If ren posts within the normal deadline, I'll go back and change his action.

The third shambler facing Narbel swallows the dwarf whole, forcing Narbel deep into the its body with with its tendrils. With nothing nearby to stop it, the beast moves towards Starwinds and Reed.

Would the dwarven racial ability Stand Your Ground not have an effect on this?

There's no actual number for the pull effect; it just pulls you into its space. So presumeably reducing its indeterminate pull by 1 would still leave it with enough.

If you had something that could cancel the forced move entirely, that should work.
