The Spirit

Has anyone else seen the new commercials praising the film? Oddly, the quotes all seem to come from the same guy. And it's not even from some small newspaper, but a website.

I thought, "Oh, that's not good." So I went to wikipedia and checked out the "Reception" part of the film's entry and found this:

49 reviews and only 7 were positive? Yikes!

Looks like Frank should stick to Comicbooks....... :(

The movie should have been rated R like 300 and SIN CITY, by going the PG-13 route I feel they held back the 'spirit' (pun) of the movie.

I would not call it bad, just not as good as it could have been and it was all the director fault, this should not have been Frank's first film, I know, he was a co-director with Robert Rodriguez on SIN CITY but Robert Rodriguez has 11 movies under his belt. Frank is a freshman and it shows!

Eva Mendes, my bunk!

Well, the original source material was published in the comics section of Sunday newspapers, so I think excessive gore or sexual content would represent a pretty major departure.

Though from what I hear, Miller goofed that up anyway.

Holy crap on a stick I didn't realize how bad this was going to be. I haven't been this annoyed at having watched a movie since Happily N'Ever After. The only real bright spot here is Eva Mendes' butt and while that's nice and all it serves as a poor bright spot for a movie. This derriere's appearance, though disappointingly brief, was sadly the most convincing portrayal of the whole mess, showing a breadth and depth untouched by the other actors.

Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times said, "There is not a trace of human emotion in it. To call the characters cardboard is to insult a useful packing material".

That's gotta be one of the best "review snippets" in a long time. :)

That, my friend, is a quality movie review blurb. KUDOS!
