I don't like campy, silly, or punny names, because seriously--how many times can you hear the same joke before it starts getting on your nerves? So to keep such "humor" to a minimum, I reward creative, well-thought, and relevant names...players who go through the trouble to give their character such a name will get to start the game with +50 gold, or a healing potion, or some other minor perk.

In my last 3.5E game
Aria (half-elf ranger/sorcerer)
Reznor (human cleric)
Willow (half-elf druid)
Indrid (half-orc fighter)
Everlind (halfling rogue)

In my BECM game:
Ballanor (fighter)
Swindle (thief)
Clarii (cleric)
Cinder (elf)

And for my Mouse Guard sandbox game:
Maple, Tessa, Sgt. Dax, and Ruel.

See, I went the in opposite direction starting a few year back. I realized that I as DM was in no position to judge that kind of player creativity. In the end all would be doing is rewarding people who thought like me, and while I'm terribly fond of my inner narcissist, not to mention the clever-clever names I cook up for characters ("Joseirus", "Eastwood West", "Yatagan Fracas"), I felt like that would be the wrong thing to do.
