L4W Discussion Thread III

Well, it is a very early preview form, and they do explicitly say that the hybrid system may change significantly based on playtesting. Got another year or so before the official version.

On another note, is there an "etiquette" regarding posting OOC-style in adventure threads that you're not actually involved in?

redbeard: well, actually they don't seem to be putting to use playtest time much. I mean, I can only imagine how many mails Wizards received about storm of blades (the barbarian's lvl13 multi-attack power), but they didn't change them (and they had the blade cascade "incident" already) ... so...uhmm

About ooc in others' games: I doubt anyone would see it as a problem, it's a friendly community... it's a good idea to put comments in sblocks though, as to not interrupt the "flow" of the game.
Our competent moderators will be able to give you a more informed answer, I'm sure :)

Maybe it's just me, but I'd prefer that people who aren't actually involved with an adventure avoid posting in the adventure thread. Personally, I'd post the comment in this thread, or some other appropriate thread. If you think it might be unclear what exactly you're talking about, you could even hit quote on a post from the adventure, then copy the quote to your actual post.

I don't see a problem with posts like that once in a blue moon, but ... I'd just rather not open that door very far. Judging by what generally happens here, I think it's safe to say that that's the etiquette. However, I'm obviously not the only person in this community; what do the rest of you think?

That tends to be the trend. In nonliving games, where there are IC and OOC threads, its a little bit more lax. But even then, the discussion is about the game at hand.

I wouldn't like it if folks posted in the middle of one of my games. When you get a good synergy with the other players and DM, having an odd comment can throw the mix--or worse, start a rabbit trail that slows the action.

This Hybrid Characters Playtest looks AWESOME!

I can't wait to try it out. Unfortunately the only RL DM I know doesn't want to run them. :.-( But at least I found a RL DM...

Now I have got to find a way to play with one of these! they look so fun. Like what I would have made Multiclassing to begin with.

I wish I could see them :( Are they more like gestalt from 3e?

I guess the way I think of it is, if you walk up to a game in the real world that's running, but you're not involved, you don't generally strike up a conversation with one of the players or the DM, right? I tend to treat the games here the same.

I'd say they're a bit closer to 2nd ed multiclassing, but you level up normally.

It's all done through hybrid classes, which are like weak classes, but you get to pick two.

The end effect is averaging HP and defenses.
Best of weapon proficiencies, worst of armor proficiencies.
Pick skills from either list.
Class features are dictated by the hybrid class description, some remain, some are missing and some are weakened.

Standard number of powers, pick them from either class, but keep them balanced.

In the end, it looks pretty neat, but it's going to create some nasty MAD for a lot of (what I think are) the more interesting combinations.
