Green Ronin doing Dragon Age

Maybe a thread in which people talk less what they think of how it was announced and more about what it is. I'm still sure exactly what this game is.

Chris has said that he wrote it as a true introductory game to bring new players into the hobby, one that feels old-school and exciting but includes the lesson's we've learned since the '80s. I'm excited by it; I think it may end up sucking a number of new gamers into the hobby.

So I assume the game uses it's own system? Is there any more info? The Press Release is fairly basic. I read boxed set which sounds cool. Anything other info out there?

Pretty sure it's a custom system, yep. Wouldn't be too surprised if the system is common to both the CRPG and TTRPG. Well, more or less.

It'll come out before the CRPG, and will be available in places like B&N, Borders, etc. Well, so I heard. . .

Could be very true! BioWare has a big following - and as the TTRPG is released earlier, it is effectively a "preview" to the game world, at least.

If the TTRPG is well-written (and we're talking about Green Ronin here, which is far from bad), this could really get some traction, especially if BioWare does some advertising for the Green Ronin RPG as well.

And the interesting thing to watch for is that it is *not* named D&D, yet tied to something big and hits the fantasy niche, which is sort of thriving now, though D&D may have a "dorky" image in some minds. This may get around that - sucking in younger gamers.

Cheers, LT.

I'd not heard of the video game before - but now I have, and I'm actualy interested in it. I think Bioware have done a good job selling the video game to - at least a portion of - the pen/paper market with this move, because I'm sure I'm not unique.

Yeah. I hadn't heard of this game until Green Ronin's announcement. I think BioWare is getting good free publicity out of this.

After the sheer brilliance that was Mass Effect, I can honestly say I'm pretty excited for Dragon Age.

As for the RPG, we'll see. I really enjoyed the design elements of the Song of Ice and Fire RPG, though.

A collectors edition with the game and the game together would be great.

But I will (money permitting) get it. I just love reading new systems, I have tons I'll never play :)
