Green Ronin doing Dragon Age

I've actually been following the CRPG for awhile now since I first heard about it over a year ago. Bioware is being really aggressive with this product and covering all the bases. If you haven't heard or seen it you can also get the first novel (which I've been thinking of picking up) at your local bookstore or from Amazon [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Age-Stolen-David-Gaider/dp/0765324083/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1241677944&sr=8-2"]here[/ame].

I love that GR is treating it as a way to introduce people to gaming so that the RPG will be the first true gateway product. There have been crossovers in the past but to be honest they never really focused on being a gateway as much as just offering existing gamers a table top version of the game. GR and BW seem to want this product to really bridge the gap which is great and as mentioned will hopefully bring people into the hobby.

I've loosely followed the Dragon Age Crpg, but nothing in it thrills me. It feels like LotR meets D&D! :-p Reminded me a little of Oblivion too. Just a bit too generic.

The p&p game might be a fun read, assuming it's a new system as opposed to true20, I may give it a try later on.

Chris has said that he wrote it as a true introductory game to bring new players into the hobby, one that feels old-school and exciting but includes the lesson's we've learned since the '80s. I'm excited by it; I think it may end up sucking a number of new gamers into the hobby.

This is a bit disappointing for me. I was hoping for a somewhat complex/detailed RPG, but there seems to be a trend toward simplifacation in RPGs at the moment. Given that it will be an 'introductory game', I no longer feel very compelled to pick it up once it's released.

I have been following this game for years and Dragon Age seems like classical high fantasy with some new twists. The balance of new and old... of familiar and novel seems to be superb for my taste. As such, I am greatly looking forward to the CRPG, though not so much to the PnP game anymore, given the new information about it.

I'd not heard of the video game before - but now I have, and I'm actualy interested in it. I think Bioware have done a good job selling the video game to - at least a portion of - the pen/paper market with this move, because I'm sure I'm not unique.

Yeah. I hadn't heard of this game until Green Ronin's announcement. I think BioWare is getting good free publicity out of this.

I am surprised that it seems so many of you have not heard of Dragon Age before - I kind of assumed the overlap between heavy PnP gamers and those who follow CRPGs is very strong at least on the PnP side (maybe not the other way around). Oh well, I guess this does show that it was a shrewd marketing move by BioWare to announce the PnP game. Do check out the CRPG, though, it promises to be pretty awesome.

Pretty sure it's a custom system, yep. Wouldn't be too surprised if the system is common to both the CRPG and TTRPG. Well, more or less.

I can pretty much guarantee that this will not be the case for Dragon Age. Judging from the announcement, it does seem to be a custom system, but I can say with some confidence that there won't be a common system between the CRPG and the PnP RPG. The reason is that snippets of the rules for the CRPG have been released already and it is clear that the CRPG system is highly detailed and complex, taking full advantage of the fact that computer takes care of the calculations. If the PnP RPG is supposed to be an introductory PnP RPG, there is no way it will have that amount of complexity and calculation-intensity (which appears to be much, much greater than in 3.5E).
