Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

I am disappointed with the dwarf racial write-up. I expected more changes to eliminate the gazillion circumstantial bonuses that dwarves get. Instead, they basically erased the favored class and turned stability into a CMD bonus, and that's it.

I'm sure I'd read somewhere that favored classes had gone - though I can't remember where, so maybe I'm just imagining it. Either way, it comes as no surprise

I certainly like the overall look so far. It shouldn't surprise anyone that it has that 3ed feel, of course, since that's exactly the market they're aiming for :)

Word on the street(ie: Paizo forums) is that favored classes aren't gone, but are simply no longer tied to race. You choose your one favored class yourself at creation(and apparently half-elves get to pick two, maybe).

Or so folks are saying...

The human is surprisingly (and pleasingly) chunky.

Man, you ain't kidding there. Breath of fresh air, that.

edit-Aw hell, I just noticed where the gnome is looking.

Well, was to be expected because all combat maneuvers use CMB against CMD (i.e. roll vs. DC). So, as per 3.5 rules dwarves get a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground, this means that the "new stability" is just a "rewrite" of the "old rules" (no bonus to the check to resist but to the "DC" the enemy must meet or beat for the meneuver to succeed).

I don't have a problem with that; I am disappointed they didn't go further in streamlining the race.

Me too... they elimimated the Perception bonus for some reason, but kept Hatred and Dodge Bonus against giants... I would understand, if you got to choose the creature type (Aberrations, for example) your clan haf fought against since the earliest days. I'm glad that they kept Stability and Slow but Steady, though.

As the new Favored Class mechanic was really loved in my group, I can't understand why they eliminated it. Especially since it was a minor "tweak", and helped with skill points or hit points, *AND* made single-classing a bit more enticing (esp. with the "cap" abilities).

And no we're not related. Though interesting enough we tend to post a lot in the same threads. I think he's stalking me! ;)

Yeah, I even changed my username to be more like my hero!!!!

Actually I changed it for other-board reasons, but the above it more fun.

Hints that have been dropped suggest that the favored class is still there, however the player picks it not your race. This may be rumor and nothing more however

Well, it would be weird if you could pick Wizard for your dwarf... I hope the system still exists, but free picks could easily be (another) mechanic that enhances the powergaming aspects. Oh, well...
