What alternate game systems are you trying out if you don't like 4e?

Monte's Book of Experimental Might w/ some OGL Conan, but chomping at the bit for Fantasy Craft and will more than likely jettison BoXM for it when it hits.

I'm grudgingly on-board for 4e, but I'm about to start up some FFZ games, which will probably get more of my lovin'.

I do a bit of True 20 when I'm doing something non-standard. It's a wonderful, flexible, simple system.

FFZ has the advantage of using some of the best design ideas of the last 10 or so years in its own context. It's basically d20 based, but it's gentler than 3e or 4e (which I still see as quite complex in parts), and takes to heart a lot of narrative game design ideas that D&D never approached. It's easier to tell a story with the system, for me, because the system actively supports that kind of play.

edit: Fantasy?

If our 4e game somehow ended, I can't think of another fantasy game I would consider trying/returning to. We'd do Vampire or Cthulhu or just play Rock Band every Sunday ;)

After checking out a few today, I'm leaning heavily towards:

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.
Savage Worlds.

Reasons are obvious:
* Combats are fast and dangerous
* Setting(s) are awesome
* LOTS of players around my area
* Magic is used by specialized few and is dangerous
* Roleplaying options are open because of streamlined rules
* Well playtested

I'm playing Swords & Wizardry these days (the '0e' D&D retro-clone). I've nothing against 4e, but I can't be bothered to try it because I'm having so much fun with S&W.

I'd like to get back to playing Rolemaster Classic as well at some point.

Well, 4e didn't have any effect on my gaming, but I looked at several systems when I was growing dissatisfied with 3e:

TSR D&D and retro-clones (pretty much all of them)
Castles & Crusades
Lejendary Adventure
Savage Worlds
True20

My picks from the above list are:

Original D&D (or Swords & Wizardry)
AD&D 1e (or OSRIC)

I also like both C&C and LA, but neither stuck. C&C because I'd rather run D&D, and LA because...well, I don't know why, actually. I think LA is a pretty nice system, but I guess I don't have time to devote to more than one major fantasy RPG, these days.

Other fantasy games I like include:

Stormbringer (Chaosium)
RQ2
Basic Role Playing
RM2 or Rolemaster Classic

For non-fantasy, I like BRP Call of Cthulhu (and Delta Green) and Classic Traveller. I've also been looking at Trail of Cthulhu, and am very intrigued -- I think it would work well for an investigation "peel the layers off the onion" kind of game. Oh, and I think that Risus is pretty nifty.
