Pathfinder 1E [Pathfinder] Planning on switching to Pathfinder?

My weekend group isn't switching over from 3.5 any time soon. My weekday group just switched from 3.5 to C&C because we're looking for a less rule-intensive game.

That said, if Paizo came out with a Pathfinder Basic I'd be all over it.

I am happy to hear that the first run sold out and that the energy seems to be high for Pathfinder. Competition will promote the need for innovation for each company and that just spells good things for everybody else.
How dare you be so reasonable on the internet?!?! Oh, wait... that's actually
a really nice way to think about things. I hope it caches on.

I think I want to start a Hugs for Hjorimir program. :D

Speaking of War of the Burning Sky, I hate to say it because I'm currently running it and love running it, but I don't... think the writers' grasp of the 4e rules is nearly as good as their grasp of the 3e rules was. This might be understandable since 3e was out for 6-7 years by the time War of the Burning Sky was written, while 4e has been out for just over a year now, but it's still an issue, so I'd recommend the 3e version.

On the other hand, I don't have the 4e version of any of the War of the Burning Sky modules, so maybe - no, even hopefully - I'm actually a buffoon and my worries are unfounded.

Just to clarify: your belief that the writers don't know the rules enough is not actually based on anything??

This is probably the approach we'll take as well. I can't say how much I really want to like Pathfinder :) but the news in another thread that additional classes are going to be announced soon scares me that we are already on the rod to rules bloat :(

I wouldn't worry too much until saw what they're actually talking about. It could be psionics, or oriental adventures. Either of which could use new classes and which you would never have to use unless you wanted to.

From what I have heard, I am not interested in Pathfinder. I loved 3e and 3.5, but was glad to see 4e when it came out.

We'll keep playing 4e since there is lots of material to try.

In a nutshell.... not yet but definately.
Running 3.5 with some PFRPG stuff houseruled in.
Ill switch when the new PFRPG DM book and a few of the new PFRPG AP books are out and/or when my current RotRL campaign ends.

Not switching to Pathfinder but I may get the book anyways. It has my number one favourite artist (WAR) doing a lot of the artwork and it just looks so purdy ;)

The Player's Guide and Campaign Guide are free for both versions of War of the Burning Sky, so I have them for both editions. I found the material in the 4e Player's Guide to be somewhat worrying in terms of their grasp of 4e mechanics.

Not at the moment, but it's probably only a matter of time before I reverse-engineer my own Frankenstein system from it. 4e doesn't satisfy me very much, but I'm ready to get rid of some of the 3e things that Pathfinder still is leaving in-tact. There's no satisfying middle ground with these two. ;)
Come on, KM! I thought you were writing the ruleset that fits that satisfying middle ground. :p

Seriously, though. Has someone started cobbling a ruleset that encompasses both the positive things about 3.x/Pathfinder and 4e?

I ran the 3.x version until level 8 or so. I am starting the 4e version as a VTT game in the coming month. I finally have all my ducks in a row.

I am not sure Imban's opinion is the case, but there are a couple of (minor) troubling parts so far. I want to play it out for a level or two before I state the claim that there's a lack of rules expertise.

But.... Imban has the same gut instinct that I have.... we'll see.

I remember that I ran the Mongoose Drow War and it was a terrible read, but an awesome play experience. So I don't judge anything until I run it a bit.

I would love to try running Burning Wheel or Savage Worlds for this very reason. I think the rules would be great for a change of pace.

I am not switching the dungeonaday.com campaign I am running to it (gonna keep with 3e for that). But I am buying all the PFRPG stuffand the next campaign I start (and more than likely all that come after) will be using the rules.

love,
