FanExpo 2009 August 28-30, Toronto

First Post
I've gone to FanExpo (and its earlier incarnations) for years, and I've always had a fun time. I'll be going this year too (on the Saturday). I'm a long-time gamer, but have never really explored FanExpo's offerings in this regard, which is somewhat embarrassing, I'll admit. In the past, I've gone for the deals on back issue comics, ocassionally gaming stuff (esp. European-style board games and RPG stuff) and, generally, the fan-boy spectacle of the the whole thing. I've been to Gen Con several times as well; the two conventions aren't really the same, so any comparisons between them are bound to be somewhat unbalanced, in my opinion. Gen Con is its own thing, and so too is FanExpo, even if there may be some overlap as far as the interests of attendees go.

I think there's one called Palladium held out by the airport. It's been a couple years since I heard about it so I don't know if it's still running or not.

Hmmm, haven't heard of it and googling it results in nothing. It would be a confusing name to pick for a con as there is a Palladium RPG book company . . .
There's the Playdium out in Mississuaga that's a arcade/kids fun place.

In terms of other con's (that aren't really in the Toronto area . . .) there's Phantasm in Peterborogh, coming up at the end of September. I should point out that its billed as an RPG con. Never been to it.

Further away there's also CanGames in Ottawa, which already had its yearly event. (I somehow managed to overlook the date of this one this year.)

Go-Play Ottawa is proud to be a disorganize one day mini-con, that happens quarterly. While its great fun, probably not worth a long trip unless you want to visit Ottawa for some other reasons.

Anyone know of anything else?

Oh and feel free to go visit the Eastern Canada RPG group here on ENworld :).

Here's the link for RPGA event scheduling at Fan Expo. I'll be running two slots of CORE1-13, on Friday evening and Saturday evening.

Fan Expo RPGA gaming : Event Overview

Hopefully, between all the RPGA, I'll actually have a bit of time to go see the dealer's room!

Thanks for the link. Anyone know if there is a method to pre-register for specific games.

The other relevant schedule link for RPGs is here.

Unfortunately my 1e/OSRIC game is not on the schedule, guess we got in the details to late. Not sure if they'll update it. When I find out the details of when I'm running it I'll post up some more info. (probably tomorrow or Wednesday.)

For those curious souls. I'm volunteering with Polymancer.

I'm going to be running an OSRICTM adventure
Stone Giant's Isle
A First Edition Fantasy adventure for character levels 6-9.
A colossal stone figure dominates the cliffs of this isle, giving its name. The place has been shunned for centuries as ships either disappear or turn up near its waters devoid of life but seaworthy. The PCs ship is damaged by a storm, monsters or pirates and is forced to seek shelter, dodging the isle's inhospitable cliffs you just manage to beach on its eastern shore.

Being the MAXIMUM POWER IN THE UNIVERSE (Max for short ;)) I will also be running a Chaos University session. Some wacky magic school fun.

Unfortunately I still don't know when there scheduled. A wild guess would be Satuday morning, evening or Sunday.

Too bad it is this weekend. I always like excuses to visit my friends in Southern Ontario. Unfortunately, I didn't know about this one enough in advance and have to work this weekend. Have fun without me.

Just got back from the FanExpo; I had a good time! Played in a Mage game and an OSRIC game.

Thondor, were you the DM of the OSRIC game? I was playing Ulger the human thief. If so, I wanted to ask what was up with the island, since we didn't get to finish it.
