Cheysuli bends down and picks up her end of the stretcher once more and the group move through the open gate into the town. She stops just inside and picks out the guard that had spoken to them';
"immediately immediately? as in; right now? We will if that is what the Lord expects, but do you not think we should bathe and make a change of clothes first? I have the stench of a days travel and fighting on me," She wafts her the unpleasant smell of kobold blood mixed with her own bodily odour toward dragonborn with a cheeky glint in her eye, "I would prefer not to appear before Lord Hashteth in such an uncourtly fashion."

The guard stumbles, clearly not used to dealing with people like Chey. "Er, no. Forgive me, I meant 'as soon as possible' but you are right; you have time to make yourself presentable, at which point you should call on Lord Hashteth. I'll send someone so he knows to expect you."

Firete, I think our best bet is to make ourselves appear to be useful allies to the spy. Once he believes he's on the verge of being discovered, he may look for individuals who can help him attack Chey, Brenwar and Miranna. Do you think you could compose a song that subtly indicates some level of mercenarial action on our part, without freaking out the rest of the tavern-goers?

That seems like a much better plan than mine, Firete said. I believe I have a ballad that I can adapt for such an event, but perhaps we should clear it with the tavern keeper first so we don't get thrown out when I spontaneously burst into song. I have the feeling that he could be willing since the local bard Sekura is not performing tonight. There will be some suspicion if there is not some form of payment, so perhaps he will agree to put us up in exchange.

Firete gets up from the table and goes over to the bar, signalling to the tavern keeper. She gets out her harp so that it is in full view.

I am wondering if you would be interesed in your patrons having a change of program this evening. I have heard that your local bard will not be performing tonight, can I attempt to persuade you in engaging my services in exchange for food and lodging for myself and my friend?

[sblock=Diplomacy check]I'm pretty sure this is the right skill, even though there's no "catch all" skill of Persuade. Diplomacy (1d20+8=19)[/sblock]

1. How long will Words of Friendship last if I use it.
2. What do I have to roll (if anything at all) to get the song to do what Yishim was saying? I am assuming it's Charisma based and maybe Bluff, as it's about something we have never done, but Perform doesn't exist anymore. It would also be interesting to know in future if my songs by themselves will have any effect.[/sblock]

Before beginning, Firete goes back to Yishim. It's agreed, I'll start playing it may be a good idea for you to see if there is anyone is taking more than a cursory interest in my song.

Firete tunes her harp and strikes a chord, attracting the attention of the people in the tavern.

Good people, I am Firete and I have late arrived from Daunton. Your resident bard will not be performing this evening, though I have been permitted to enlighten you on the various exploits my friend and I have had before arriving here.

She then plays a ballad that she learned a few years ago, about a pair of mercenaries who were betrayed by the lord who hired them, changing names and places as was fit. The song was rousing and rollicking with a tempo that changed from fast to very slow.
