D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Random Encounter Generator Just leveled up!

I just tried the Random Monster Advancer at CR EL, and got an illegal creature:

Ghost Fiendish Vampire Spellwarped White Half-Dragon Elemental, Air (Age1:Small)

Fiendish doesn't change creature type, but both Ghost and Vampire require the altered creature be alive, and both change type to undead. Likewise, you can't apply half-dragon to an undead, and you can't apply Vampire to a Dragon. There may be a few others.

It is really nifty, though.

Also:
The Quickened Monster Advancer doesn't seem to remember that the Elite stat array comes free with any PC class level. Nor does the full Monster Advancer seem to do so.

I have taken the initial approach that the illegality of something is up to the DM. So the random generator doesn't really take that into account. I have programmed in the rules into the templates so I all would have to do is have the random generator take that into account when picking out templates. (I plan on having the option of "rules enforcement for templates" be available prior to creature generation so that if you want the rules to be obeyed you can.)

You caught me there with regards to the Quickened Advancer. This is something I plan on doing and have not gotten to yet. In general I plan on having the basics of elite array vs. standard array be followed as well as perhaps a way for you to alter the array on the fly to anything you would like (rolls variants, etc.).

In the full advancer you can change any of the stats you would like prior to generation. (Click on any of the stat cells and you will find they are editable like an excel spreadsheet. If you want your troll to have a 50Str...have fun.) I realize that this still does not provide a dead simple way to use the elite array but that will part of the feature improvement when I handle elite vs. standard array at all.
 


More Creatures!!!

Wow, these are impressive generators!!!

One question... does the Monster Advancer only do those monsters listed?
I appreciate the kind words of support.
And to answer your question--yes for the time being but the list continues to grow. However, with that said I am currently sitting on the remaining list of over 300 more creatures which are about 95% done. I parsed them out of some other database which has proven very nice in terms of time saving but it isn't 100% accurate either. I am going through the entries now...cleaning them up, and putting them into the generator as I verify that they matched up with what they should be. With that in mind basically I am a few minutes away from any given monster but a week or two away from having everything done. If you have a few creatures you would really like right now...shoot 'em my way and I will clean up those entries first and get them into the generator with the very next release.
 

Looks good, nice work! Do you plan on putting spell lists (or at least number known/cast per day) on the output for creatures with caster levels?

BTW, bug report: a Headband of Intellect +6 is indicated as having a value of only 4000gp on several monsters I tested. (The few other items I tried were correct, afaict)

Question, sort of.

Well i like the program but i have four issues with it that prevent me from using it primarily, right now I use NPC Desginer more, Anyways.
1: no ability to build cr by alinment (similar to minis rules) like if i want a group of cr 2-3 humanoids and i want evil for a encounter, it takes a lot of random generation. Is it possible to include a function that lets you set the alinment you want for the encounter.
2: for the monsters that can have classes is it possible to A: let us pick the classes we want, so it doesnt spawn say a bunch of sorcerers and one rogue or something similar, and B: another program. Redblade 3.5 released its code as open source I think becuse the creator is no longer working on it, is there any possbility of intergrating a class feature that would let us choose the classes, feats and gear for the encounter program?
3: a lot of errors saying illegal group lke cr 2 encounter with 3-4 encounters not showing any results. Is there a way to make the program seek the next possbile group, either higher or lower?
4: maybe some kind of export feature that lets us save the information as a .txt file so we can referance it or at least have the option to save for tweaking later, etc cetrea.

Other then that the programs really good, an offline version would be neat but thats no big issue.

Not dead at all. I just have been a bit busy. I thought I would let you in on my plans for the items you listed as primary concerns right now.

Alignment as a limiting factor for encounters is a good idea and something that I will eventually include. I figure this will come with the "tailored" encounter feature-set that is in the works. This will help with things like a "crypt" theme or a master druid with a group of 4 dire wolves type of random encounters...they are random but not quite as random as the encounters the system currently generates.

2: for the monsters that can have classes is it possible to A: let us pick the classes we want, so it doesnt spawn say a bunch of sorcerers and one rogue or something similar, and B: another program. More features for encounter customization will be included with tailored encounter generator. This will probably include the ability to pick classes you want used or even adjust some weights on certain features...(think mostly casters with a few toughs style restrictions)

The errors will go away when I finish the clean up of nearly 500 more monsters I have 90% complete that just need a bit of polish before release. The problem is that there are not enough creatures in the current system with low encounter level...so when it tries to generate certain types of groups it has a hard time.

I am currently working on 2 features that should help you out here. First is that I will eventually have a way for people to have logins that will allow you to store creatures you have created or customized. Also, I am trying to streamline the system so that creatures can be generated directly from a URL. This would allow you to simply store a URL somewhere and hit it again anytime...not to mention this will make it easy to link and share your creations.

Offline version is something that is on the radar but will probably be a while before I get to it. I would like to get to a place I feel is a very strong online offering first.

Anyway, these are just a few of the features that are on the backlog or in the works. I hope to have some of these things listed in a section of my site eventually so they are easier to follow, comment on, or even help out with. I am still working on tons of things but I am accepting new ideas, suggestions and criticisms daily...and I use them all to help make the product better. I appreciate all the support I get...and telling me what would help you use the application more is great support.
 


Leveled Up Again!

Hey all! Just got a major release done last night. 404 new creatures and all NPC classes have now been added. Nearly all core SRD creatures are done now except for psionics and epic (which I have mostly done as well but I wasn't sure how much desire there was for said creatures so I have been dragging my feet just a bit.)

This means that all these creatures will show up for random encounters and the npc classes will be selected for random creatures as well. Millions of new combinations are now possible and a lot of more specific groups will work better as well.
