The mind of the Monster Advancer Overlord - Random Encounter Generator features
Not dead at all. I just have been a bit busy. I thought I would let you in on my plans for the items you listed as primary concerns right now.
1: no ability to build cr by alinment (similar to minis rules) like if i want a group of cr 2-3 humanoids and i want evil for a encounter, it takes a lot of random generation. Is it possible to include a function that lets you set the alinment you want for the encounter.
Alignment as a limiting factor for encounters is a good idea and something that I will eventually include. I figure this will come with the "tailored" encounter feature-set that is in the works. This will help with things like a "crypt" theme or a master druid with a group of 4 dire wolves type of random encounters...they are random but not quite as random as the encounters the system currently generates.
2: for the monsters that can have classes is it possible to A: let us pick the classes we want, so it doesnt spawn say a bunch of sorcerers and one rogue or something similar, and B: another program. Redblade 3.5 released its code as open source I think becuse the creator is no longer working on it, is there any possbility of intergrating a class feature that would let us choose the classes, feats and gear for the encounter program?
More features for encounter customization will be included with tailored encounter generator. This will probably include the ability to pick classes you want used or even adjust some weights on certain features...(think mostly casters with a few toughs style restrictions)
3: a lot of errors saying illegal group lke cr 2 encounter with 3-4 encounters not showing any results. Is there a way to make the program seek the next possbile group, either higher or lower?
The errors will go away when I finish the clean up of nearly 500 more monsters I have 90% complete that just need a bit of polish before release. The problem is that there are not enough creatures in the current system with low encounter level...so when it tries to generate certain types of groups it has a hard time.
4: maybe some kind of export feature that lets us save the information as a .txt file so we can referance it or at least have the option to save for tweaking later, etc cetrea.
I am currently working on 2 features that should help you out here. First is that I will eventually have a way for people to have logins that will allow you to store creatures you have created or customized. Also, I am trying to streamline the system so that creatures can be generated directly from a URL. This would allow you to simply store a URL somewhere and hit it again anytime...not to mention this will make it easy to link and share your creations.
Other then that the programs really good, an offline version would be neat but thats no big issue.
Offline version is something that is on the radar but will probably be a while before I get to it. I would like to get to a place I feel is a very strong online offering first.
Anyway, these are just a few of the features that are on the backlog or in the works. I hope to have some of these things listed in a section of my site eventually so they are easier to follow, comment on, or even help out with. I am still working on tons of things but I am accepting new ideas, suggestions and criticisms daily...and I use them all to help make the product better. I appreciate all the support I get...and telling me what would help you use the application more is great support.
