Hackmaster won an ORIGINS award in 2001

Incidentally, as I recall it Bruce said that way back when because he felt it wasn't good for a set of AD&D1 house/tribute rules to be promoted via an award intended to recognize new RPGs. It had nothing to do with Hackmaster's quality, except perhaps the idea that something that is specifically a light comedy parody of AD&D1 didn't really jibe with the idea of the OAs being a progressive award.

Hackmaster won during a period when the OAs were pretty screwed up. They handed out an award to one of those d20 books with the traced porn covers (forget which; even GAMA doesn't care enough to put it somewhere you can easily Google it) and were part of a general power struggle over GAMA.

Incidentally, the ENnies rise owes quite a bit to the OAs stumbling, especially since it was seen as a way to create a marketable sales award. The ENnies rose in favour because they would avoid behind the scenes personality clashes, but could be manipulated through brute force voting campaigns.

NERD RAGE!!!!
Even after a decade, it's never too late!

B-)

[Seriously though, Bruce Baugh is one of my favorite designers ever and still is. Based on two decades of knowing him, I'm guessing he was having a bad day. Ten years ago.]

I'll probably be less inclined to buy other things with his name on them. Like True20 Adventure Roleplaying.

Bruce Baugh's only contribution to True20 was one of the sample campaign settings that were included in the original printing (2005) based on a design contest that Green Ronin ran. Those settings were no longer included in True20 Revised (2008), so boycotting now would be pointless. So if you are seriously interested in checking True20 out even though it's practically off everyone's radar now, don't let this stop you! B-)

Having spent 8 years in the US Army, it never ceases to amaze me how angry people get over other people exercising their first ammendment rights.

The First Amendment affords the right to say what one likes. It does not grant any special protection from criticism of the manner in which one chooses to exercise it.

Indeed, it is the absence of such protection that is what the First Amendment is all about.

For an encore, I say we all get in the car, drive to Lorraine Williams house, and TP her yard!
