Morkul's Art

Nice work, Morkul! I really like how you do the eyes on some of your pen & ink figures - they're an interesting mix that reminds me of Edvard Munch, Edward Gorey, and Charles Addams all at once!

thanks. i have gotten the Edvard Munch comparison before, but mostly because of my paintings rather than my drawings...

i have been using this thread to motivate myself to draw more, so i have not posted any old stuff. maybe i will at some point so that you and others can see what i mean (about the Munch comparison). id honestly rather just paint some new paintings though. the map that i am working on is the first thing (outside of houses) that i have painted in four or five years. it is all acrylic and latex, but i plan on getting some oil paintings going this winter...

...that's interesting, because I also saw the Charles Addams similarities as well before I looked at your Influences thread! B-)

ya, the original Addams family comic strip and television show are definitely a big influence. they are very goofy in their creepiness...

i dig a lot of things that are Halloween themed, like that Rankin/Bass film Mad Monster Party, old 'B' horror and sci-fi films and pulp magazine art. i dont like the new horror films at all...

Wow, how many hours do you have in your floor, so far? Looks like it's really coming along quite well.

im honestly not sure how many hours i have put into it yet. the late night wine warps my sense of time and the display on my phone is broken from getting caught in the rain while working...

i have been going in with acrylic washes over the Kilz primer. the blue was mixed from some secondhand flat white latex and ultramarine acrylic paint. i had no concrete plan when i started, so i have just been making it up as i go. i am going to paint a large forest onto the north central and north eastern portion of the map, so i will be going in with some darker green. the western portion of the map is either going to be desert or just a grey waste, like Mordor. i will also be hitting the shorelines with a sandy color. that should go down tonight...
