Top Gear

Ever since I first saw Monte Python's Holy Grail, I've been a huge fan of BritComs.

Now, I must applaud one of the funniest shows they've done in years: Top Gear. Sure, the exotic cars are sweet, and the celebrity bits are cool, but their challenges are the most consistently funny things I've seen on broadcast or cable TV.

I'm posting this because I've seen a couple dozen episodes now, and finally saw their "Caravan Build challenge" tonight. It left me in tears with aching sides- simply brilliant!

This isn't Top Gear, but it's still quality Clarkson:

:D

I think that Clarkson, The Hamster and Captain Slow are the most perfect group of presenters I've seen on anything. I'd find it hard to put my finger on my favourite challenge - rally car on ice vs bobsled? light aircraft from Italy vs Bugatti Veron? Across London via Car vs Bicycle vs public transport vs powerboat? Build your own amphibious vehicle?

So good. So much fun.

And besides the challenges, the solo comedic pieces are gems: that one Jeremy did on the 3-wheeled fiberglass car that kept tipping over was priceless.

Reliant Robin - that was one of my favourites, too. So silly, but I kept laughing at it.

I love the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car. I don't know how they managed to get some of the A list stars to appear! Tom Cruise & Cameron Diaz was a classic!

I enjoyed reading Hamster's autobiography - written after his crash by him and his wife, describing how he coped with his brain injuries.

I have really enjoyed the other series that James May has presented - especially his trips sampling alcohol with Oz Clark.

I saw a trailer for an American version of Top Gear the other day and I suspect it will fail.

Because you can't replace the chemistry of Clarkson, Hammond and May. They are the perfect foils for each other and you don't have to be a Brit to laugh your butt off watching their show.

Yeah, it looks like the main question will be whether they can find a sustainable on-screen chemistry. Not necessarily the same as the original, just viable.

After all, the cars are waiting...
