Random post with a cave...

I slip back down the side I came up, and try a different column- when I get to the top, I examine this sphere more closely than the previous. It should either act as some kind of lens for the world I actually experience...or if legends are true, it may show me sights I cannot as yet imagine.

Looking into the crystal, it mostly acts as you might expect a glass ball to react: you get a somewhat murky, distorted view of the world on the other side. However, as you gaze further into the crystal, you begin to experience feelings of safety and peace. This lasts as long as you remember to hold onto the column, which isn't for that much longer because you just feel so good!

You're now lying on the grassy sward, looking up at skies of fire. There still appears to be an invisible shield above you and the city.

What do you do?

Cheers!

So, after much yakking, we hop into Brent's truck and drive to my house, a light house shaped building on Spring Cypress, a mere 30 minutes away. By highway, anyway. And oh, yes, we grab all our stuff. This little jaunt should give us a chance to recon the area, and Brent's big honking truck should be able to handle the reasonably flat terrain of Houston, assuming a symetrical parallel reality.

What a big assumption you've made! Unfortunately for you, you soon realise that the most likely road leads directly out into the burning fields. That is, if there were a road.

That's unusual: there are no roads leading into the city at all! It itself has roads and street and all those wonderful things for transportation, but there is absolutely nothing outside the ring of crystal spheres and pillars that resembles a road - not even a long abandoned one.

Something is definitely wrong here. What do you do?

Cheers!

I give a smile and a nod to Petey and turn towards the depths of the cave. Drawing my sword, I slowly move forward. "Strange." I mutter to myself; a cold chill runs down my spine. "Clearly, the pit was dug to keep intruders out; but by whom?". Carefully, I probe the floor with my sword, checking for any traps. As I approach the intersection, I stop for a moment to listen for any sounds coming from down the halls. My eyes remain fixed on the metal door.

Thankfully, you fail to trigger any traps that might kill you, nor else besides. The door itself is plain except for a design of three circles spaced as the point of an equilateral triangle. It has no door handle.

From the corridor to the left, you can hear the sound of running water, although it appears to be some way away (the corridor turns shortly after the intersection, making it difficult to determine its full length). To the right, nothing.

Examining the ground before the door reveals footprints: something has made it way in and out of the door.

What do you do?

Cheers!

Grassy sky? Either that's a typo or I've gone psychedelic supernatural funky!

I shake my head to clear my senses.

I then stash my entrenching tool and take a few swigs of water from my canteen, washing down a stim-pill and a nutribar.

Focusing my mind, I summon my multistaff from Z-space, then head into the city. I extend my senses to their limits...

Good old Z-space. What would we do without it?

With your multistaff in hand, you head into the city. Your footsteps echo off the metal streets, but the noise just reinforces how alone you are and how silent the city is.

As you get closer to one of the buildings - this one has a great bat's head carved over the door - you notice that there is a low-pitched humming noise coming from within.

One other thing: there seem to be no parks with trees or grass within the city. Parks there are, of a certainty, but they have surfaces of metal broken by abstract sculptures made of marble or crystal.

What do you do now?

Cheers!

I enter a shallow, trancelike state: playing back my progress in the city, I first try to detect any patterns in the sounds I have heard, including the hum. In a deeper but still shallow trance, I evaluate the tonal qualities of those sounds: is what I hear more musical than I would expect? Has the city's architecture been tuned?

Returning to the shallower trance after answering those questions, I try to see if I recognize the bat's head...does it conform to any iconography I can recall?

I break my trance state...

<OoC>this validates a number of things. A. Merric is allowing most any character expansions. Presumably, so long as they don't conflict with anything that's already been stated. B. the world has specific constraints, like the city, cave, and being surrounded by a field of fire.</OoC>

Brent swears as the truck bounces across the field to as close as he feels safe to the fire. "Looks like we're not going north guys."

Paul looking around, "I wonder if tthis city was transferred here as well?"

Ned sums it up "So we got two places to work from, the cave, and the city. Not counting those wierd pillars."

"I think we need more information. Can we drive a bit around the perimeter here? Maybe we'll spot something. After that, I reckon we need to go somewhere. I'm inclined to think the city may have a chance of having resources we could use.

While you drive, I'm going to zone out for a bit. I might see something different."

questions:
are we inside the ring of pillars, with the city (outside the city, of course).
Is the cave inside the ring of pillars?
Does the fire circle the ring of pillars?
How close to the pillar ring does it get?

there may be realities trailing ahead or behind us in time. Are there any adjacent that have noticeable and interesting differences? It's possible I may see the area before the blast, or an initiator reality that spawns the variants from the event that started our cross-over.

<OoC>I'm curious to see if using my Sight lets me see what I as a player can see in this forum, namely the experiences of the other players. Which is mostly harmless in that as a player, I'm already cognizant of it anyway, but it lets me bring that info into the game.</OoC>

Once I get my info, we'll try to drive up to the city and investigate.

As far as you can tell, there is no draft, even a faint one, from either passage. The stains on the altar definitely remind you of blood. As for footprints, there is quite a bit of stone dust around, but no footprints save your own: whoever made the altar has not been here recently.

When you place your hand on the altar, you feel dread, a hungering for flesh which makes you extremely uncomfortable. Fortunately, the feeling ends when you remove your hand.

What do you do?

Cheers!

To the left passage! If it is a T crossroad, the common build would be that the upper sides lead to the same place, and the lower to be the entrance... but we will see...

Sheathing my sword (yet again), I step forward and begin examining the door. I feel around the edges, searching for hinges, locks, etc. After which, I examine the circles. Are they drawn on or indented into the door? I press my fingers inside the circles; do they move? If all else fails, I speak the Elvish word for friend, "Mellon..." ;)
