Golem Immunity

On the subject I note the half-golem template which can be acquired; it gives you some Ability enancements PLUS Golem's Spell Immunity except for specific spells depending on the type of arm/limb/whatever you encorperated into yourself.

Has anyone been allowed to take this template in one of their games? I think its got like a +4 Adjustment.

The text say that a flesh golem's personality becomes cruel and murderous if it fails the will saves required when a new arm or limb is attached, since the will saves are pretty high, there is almost no chance for anyone to make them. So the first thing that would happen is a P.C. with the half-golem template would start attacking the party members who were not contructs. I personally would never use it because the loss is too much, (not to mention the horrible appearance which no self-respecting adventurer would want to take on.) although I have had great fun using them as enemies of the PCs.

"Almost no chance"? The save for the first limb is only 15. Anyone should be able to make that by mid levels (an average Diamond Mind warblade could auto-make it at level 10 or so with no chance of failure) and by higher levels most creatures should have no difficulty making the saves for three half-golem templates (DC 25 at level 15 or so is about what a well-built caster's save DCs are).

Because of the high saves, I always thought it would be a fun means to offer Epic characters extra powers via the limbs. Think of them as magical items for the PCs to buy (with or without knowing the risks it would bring). Think about! Make all 6 of those saves, and you keep those bonuses and get higher constitution? Sure, you also risk losing all your constitution and becoming an evil construct, but with power comes risk. ;)

Scenario: the PCs don't have a cleric or druid to regenerate their limbs which were severed. The only help they have in regards to that is a Wizard who specializes in golems. Should the PCs enjoy the limbs, they can go back to upgrade to a stronger limb, not realizing that each time they do so, they come one step closer to losing who they really are.

Yeah, but if you are immune to ALL spells that allow SR, its not something you can turn off. I dont imagine you could be buffed.

PLUS -all the Cure Spells and Heal allow SR even though they are fome the conjuration school. So you're screwed out of healing too.

A golems gotta do what a golems gotta do

destroy the party because your evoker cant hurt him, the fighter cant hit him, the rogue cant sneak attach and teh cleric ran out of cure spells after that last room...its what theyre there for

quite literally, tanks

if they didnt have immunity, theyd be undead giants
or just giants

its to make them....different, to stand out

as for them backfiring, well thats why you have scrolls of teleport ready to go, so you can gtfo if things go south

and even then, its the flesh golem that can go crazy, and if you make a flesh golem, you deserve it to come back on you...i mean...in folklore that happened, its called frankenstein, a little known novel, pretty good, you should read it

but the MM did a poor job of showing this, if you have heroes of horror, the cadaver golem is better as a frankenstein...but a controled flesh golem destroying the country side could make a great adventure, just sayin

While poorly played casters will suck greatly vs a golem, you'd think a fighter would be able to hit it by virtue of BAB + STR at the very least.

If worse came to worse, I assume the three "useless" members can at least flank and toss in Aid Another actions or come up with a clever way to abuse the environment.

To which I say it's perfect for Epic play...you're immune to ALL spells (except the ones noted that effect the type of golem). If you are already in Epic, you probably have other ways to heal yourself besides your friend Cleric and means to buff. At its simplest, potions still work, don't they? ;)

Spell Resistance is expensive as all heck, but through this, it's cheap (yet risky). Play it right, and you're an invincible tank against spellcasters. Let's have an example monster with devastating spells against a half golem character as an example: Balor. Dispel Magic is the only spell-like ability unaffected by SR. Be afraid of the 1/day Firestorm that will Slow the Flesh Golem though, but not damage it. scary! Looks like you've been demoted to a physical encounter demon general.

Let's take it higher with an epic monster of horror: Gibbering Orb. Once again, Dispel Magic can't touch a half golem, but fear the Disjunction (because wouldn't that undo the arms?)! Of course, it's random at which eye does what, so you may luck out. Other than that, Disintegrate will only effect a Flesh Golem (which will only take 1d12 in comparison to huge damage), while Lightning Bolt heals it and the Cone of Cold slows it. and that's pretty much it. Just need to worry about the insanity, bites, and being swallowed whole. An ungodly monster simplified to a few worries.

How isn't this awesome?
